Located 2 hours north of Toronto in the beautiful Grey Highlands, on the edge of the Beaver Valley and the Blue Mountains and a short drive from the amenities of Owen Sound, Collingwood and Meaford in the hamlet of Rocklyn. With shared accommodation and self catering, we offer a more affordable option than a hotel or B & B for groups as large as 16. Maple Sweet was an obvious evolution and extens

ion of our alpaca farm and fibre processing business. If interest was there for fibre enthusiasts, including spinners, weavers, knitters, rug hookers and felters, many of whom pursue more than one discipline or craft, then could it extend further? We soon started to reach out to quilters, scrap-bookers, artists and then to the entire social community, including church groups, boy scouts, friends and families and discovered that many were seeking a gathering place for their respective groups. The more we reached out to various individuals and groups for feedback, the more favourably the idea of a retreat was received and the more interest was initiated to establish such a place. The key response was to keep it affordable (ie less than hotel pricing) for everyone. A main lodge offers twin accommodation for 16 guests, a fully equipped kitchen for self catering and a large comfortable lounge area for relaxing with a glass of wine. A separate building with floor to ceiling windows offers the perfect natural lighting and space for workshops or seminars. The retreat is neither a bed and breakfast nor a hotel, but a cost effective accommodation option for groups. We provide the bedding and invite the groups to bring their own food and do their own cooking to keep their cost down using the full suite of kitchen amenities provided by Maple Sweet, including 2 induction/convection ranges, refrigerators & freezers, microwaves, dishwasher and barbeque. We provide all of the cookware, dishes and servingware. Catering will be available through local businesses should guests not wish to participate in the self catering option. Use of the second building for workshops and seminars will be available, as will use of the grounds for outdoor activities at no additional cost. We invite our guests to develop their own programs or take part in one of ours, but most importantly to make themselves at home and rejuvenate in the freshness of the country air. Maple Sweet is set in the small rural community of Rocklyn, Ontario and offers the seclusion of 55 acres of farmland including 40 acres of woods and a seasonal stream. The opportunity to marvel at the stars and to enjoy a campfire at the end of a satisfying and enriching day of activities completes the rural experience.

We've been busy with guests and it seems like it's been a while since we shared some of our reviews.

This was our second time staying at Maple Sweet and we really had a great time as we did last year. Jean is such a lovely host and always so quick to any responses. The place has everything you need to have to be a 5-star rating on airbnb and we can't wait to be back in the future!

Jean and Aldo are wonderful hosts, extremely responsive and helpful. Their space is incredibly well suited to large groups - lots of space for eating and social time, extremely well equipped kitchen and amenities. The setting out in the country is great and offers a ton of options for outdoor activity or nearby attractions. We had a group of friends, including kids, who loved the games, karaoke and visiting the barn to see the horses. The adults loved the big kitchen for potluck meal prep and spacious bedrooms. It's easy to find your own private space if you need some quiet time.

This place is perfect. Jean is such a gracious host. My team and I enjoyed the beautiful cabin. It is perfect for so many types of occasions. I would never had guessed that I would ever have a Canadian team offsite sitting on couches instead of at a board room table. Now.... I won't have it any other way! We will see you next year!!! This was our third time we stayed at Maple Sweet and we really enjoyed our stay as we always do. Jean is such an excellent host and always so helpful before and during our stay. Our group size varies but we always fit at Maple Sweet. We had 15 people this time and we all fit comfortably for sleeping, eating and lounging. This is such a great place to stay with a large group of people. Can’t wait to stay here again for our next visit!

"I hosted a 12 person academic writing retreat at the Sweet Maple Lodge. We couldn't have asked for a more serene setting for our endeavours. The lodge has absolutely EVERYTHING you need to host a large group. The beds are comfy, the chickens are friendly, the kitchen has absolutely everything you need to cook and feed a small army and the "country" internet was good enough to support a bunch of folks on multiple devices. Jean and her husband were prompt and friendly hosts. I could not ask for a better place to "retreat" to....I will definitely be going back again, and again."

Our stay at Maple Sweet was amazing. It was equipped with everything we could have needed, especially the kitchen and games. We will definitely be going back to this place. The host was very friendly and welcoming.

Jean did a great job at making my family feel welcome and comfortable during our stay. We enjoyed the use of the spacious kitchen for making all our own meals and feeding 30 of us at a time. The area is beautiful for a drive and some wine tasting tours. It was exactly the place my family needed for the weekend away.

We booked Jean's place for a girls weekend with 14 of us. We had everything we needed and had an awesome stay. The house has everything for cooking and large group meals so it was perfect for us. Jean was an awesome host, made sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely book this place again!

Jean was such a lovely and kind host! We were a knitting group who rented Maple Sweet for our annual retreat, and when Jean sold most of her yarn the week before our arrival, she and her husband went out of their way to make and dye more so that we would have some available for us! The cottage was lovely and spacious; there was plenty of seating for our group of 14, and we could have comfortably added two more. The loft upstairs was set up in such a perfect way for us to be able to hang out and socialize, and we could easily all fit around the extra large tables downstairs for meals. Jean and Aldo were welcoming and accommodating, and really made our stay great! Communication before our reservation was also prompt and very helpful. I would definitely recommend this listing, and we are likely to return next year!

Jean and Aldo have a wonderful place here! It was perfect for our group. They were very welcoming, provided some farm fresh eggs, and all the needed amenities were available. We were certainly very glad we chose to stay at Maple Sweet and plan to be back again next year! We definitely would recommend it for any large group.

Jean and Aldo's place is wonderful. Jean was away but Aldo made us feel very welcome, helping with the smoker and responding to any requests we had. They are excellent hosts. The place itself is also excellent. It is superbly set up to host big groups and it made our stay a smooth process (not always easy with a big group). The main table could fit the entire group for meals while providing us the flexibility to separate them during the day to have different board games going on. The public space was big enough to fit everyone and there was enough separate space that anyone wanting a quiet period could retreat from the main group. In short, it's a great place and we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Jean and Aldo were very helpful and considerate while we were planning our trip and while we stayed at Maple Sweet. The facilities were clean and much bigger than we had expected. We wanted for nothing as far as wares and outfitting. We had everything from family games, to mosquito repellent, dishes to an interesting read. We had a large group of 23 who were comfortable. We loved how open it all is and the bedrooms were so large and comfortable. The best part was the size of the main level around the kitchen area. So nice for us all to be together while we cooked and yet still be part of what is going on.The property has nice trails which we all enjoyed. The property was private and Aldo and Jean were easy to get a hold of when needed. Our group is looking forward to visiting again. Thanks Jean and Aldo!

My experience at Maple Sweet was simply amazing! We arrived to a home that was clean and well maintained. The home accommodated all of our needs and the host went above and beyond my expectations in order to address all my concerns and questions in a very quick and timely manner. Primed with a beautiful kitchen, a huge bathroom and a games room, we simply could not have asked for much more. It was not only the home that offered a great experience but also their land. Equipped with a small basketball court/net, my friends and I were able to play basketball but even greater than that was the ability to explore the forest. Overall, it did not take long for all of us to relax and call Maple Sweet our home. Thank you Jean for being our host and allowing me and friends stay over the long weekend. We hope to be back again very soon!

Excellent location: quiet, large open welcoming retreat for our group. Fantastic biking right outside the door with paved roads and superb hiking down the street. Lovely to see the horses in the fields each day.Spacious for small and large groups to feel at home.

Looks like we got it right again...............
"A group of us family and friends had an amazing time at Maple Sweet! Jean was an exceptional host and responded quickly to all my messages and inquiries! She ensured we were ok and that we had everything we needed. The place is exactly as you see it in the photos - cozy and perfect for a large group! We loved hanging out in the main area and going outside by the fire pit. The kitchen was so spacious and had more than everything we needed to prepare meals! The bedrooms were very comfortable and the dorm style washrooms were perfect for us! A lot of us loved relaxing in the loft area to watch the olympics and other sports on the big screen TV! The location is also a short drive to the beach, grocery stores etc. We even took the time to visit a waterfall! The location is a perfect getaway from the buzz of the city. Thank you Jean and Aldo for everything! We had a great time and made great memories! Hope to see you both again soon!"

"My husband and I just hosted a wedding at the Westin Trillium at Blue Mountain Resort just this past long weekend. I was able to provide accommodations to so many of my guests who were not able to book hotels in time. The place is huge that's why I was able to do this. We had such a blast during our stay here. We were able to check in very early in the morning. My cousins brought their bicycles and they were able to bike and explore the area. The place was very clean and the Aldo and Jean were very pleasant and friendly. My whole family loved them and they enjoyed this place so much. The beds were very comfortable and my whole family were able to sleep soundly. The place itself has a very relaxing atmosphere. We enjoyed the big space, the fresh air and the peaceful area. The kitchen's huge and has more than complete amenities that were able to prepare and feed a lot of people. I had guests come over after the wedding and they had such a blast. We were able to bbq, while some people were singing karaoke, some people were biking, some people were playing games and some people were enjoying the bonfire. No one was bored at all. We were very lucky that Aldo and Jean were very accommodating and they let us have this gathering at the house. I did not expect so many people to come over that night but thank you so much Jean and Aldo for letting us enjoy it. You played such a big part to what made our wedding weekend getaway perfect! I will never forget this experience. Thank you again."
