📢 Opportunity for Indigenous Youth!

Ocean Alliance Canada and ECO Canada are seeking Indigenous youth interested in exploring careers in oceans, fisheries, environmental stewardship, marine conservation, and related fields.

✅ Paid 4-week career exploration placements
✅ Up to $3,500 in wage funding per participant
✅ Hands-on experience, mentorship, and career development
✅ Placements must begin by September 28, 2026

We're looking to connect with:
• Indigenous youth interested in participating
• Community departments, Indigenous organizations, and local programs that can host a placement
• Organizations that can help connect youth with local employers

These placements provide valuable real-world experience while introducing youth to exciting career pathways in ocean and environmental sectors.

Have an idea for a great tugboat name? SAAM Towage wants to hear from community members in Metlakatla and Lax Kw'alaams.

The new tug will look very similar to the “SST Tsimshian Warrior” pictured below.

All suggested names must begin with “SAAM” — for example, “SAAM Wolf.”

How to enter:

Each participant may submit up to three name suggestions. Each suggested name must begin with “SAAM.”

To ensure your entry is eligible, please include:

Your full name
Your phone number
Your email address
Your First Nation band membership: Metlakatla or Lax Kw’alaams

A brief explanation of each suggested name, including its meaning, cultural significance, or inspiration.
Please submit entries to [email protected] by Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Prize and selection:

A selection committee, including representatives from SAAM Towage Canada, CTE, and AltaGas, will select the winning name.

The person who submits the selected name will receive a $500 gift card. 🎉

We look forward to receiving your ideas and selecting a name that reflects the strength, character, and connection of this new tug to Prince Rupert, Metlakatla, Lax Kw’alaams, and the surrounding communities.
