A small business reality we do not talk about enough.
This is not a post asking for pity. It is a reminder of the human beings behind the businesses we all rely on.
When people see a small business, they may see a listing, storefront, social media page, or service. What they may not see are the years of work behind it: personal savings invested, risks taken, late nights, repairs, cleaning, customer messages, and the constant effort to create something people can genuinely enjoy.
Not every small business owner is sitting on stacks of cash. Many of us put our life savings, time, and hearts into building a dream while navigating rising costs and an economy that already makes taking that risk difficult. For a small business, reputation is not a side issue; it is often the foundation of survival.
Constructive and honest feedback matters. It helps businesses improve, helps customers make informed choices, and keeps everyone accountable. We welcome it. What is difficult is when a review becomes part of a dispute rather than a fair reflection of the actual experience. A single unfair review can affect trust, bookings, income, and the people whose hard work made the business possible.
We are currently working through a situation that has reminded us of this reality and we hope this post encourages a little more thought before someone posts a review. If an issue arises, please communicate honestly, give the business an opportunity to address it, and make sure your review reflects the service or experience you actually received.
We remain committed to creating a beautiful, welcoming space and to treating every guest fairly and in good faith. We are grateful to everyone who supports small businesses, shares honest feedback, and remembers that there are real people on the other side of every review.
To turn this into something positive, we would like to give one hardworking small-business owner a chance to rest and recharge. If you own a small business or know someone who does and they have made it through a busy summer, tag their business in the comments and tell us why they deserve a break. We will select one nominee to receive a complimentary one night stay with us, subject to mutually agreeable dates.
Thank you for supporting small businesses and the dreams behind them!
