Three awards at Tribeca for “Labrador — Autopsie du silence” by Rodrigue Jean. Best International Feature Film, Best Cinematography: Mathieu Laverdière, Best Performance: Christopher Angatookalook.

The film was shot on our ARRI Alexa Mini LF with our Atlas Mercury 1.5x Anamorphic lenses. The colour grade bears the signature of our colourist Marc Boucrot.

Félicitations à toute l’équipe de Tahmina, qui a terminé son tournage en Tunisie la semaine dernière. Une co-production entre les Pays-Bas et le Québec (produite ici par notre société sœur Greenground Productions). Réalisé par Aboozar Aminitells, ce film raconte les horreurs de la guerre à travers le prisme de la mythologie afghane.

Mention spéciale à l’équipe caméra, le directeur photo Alexandre Nour, le cadreur Benoît C. Gauthier et le 1er assistant caméra Daniel Duranleau, ainsi qu’à toute l’équipe pour leur travail remarquable dans des conditions particulièrement exigeantes.

Pour relever ces défis, Alexandre a opté pour la Sony Venice II, reconnue pour sa grande polyvalence. Associée au tout nouveau Rialto Mini, à des objectifs Cooke S2 Panchro et aux rares Great Wall de Beijing 608, elle a offert à l’équipe toute la flexibilité nécessaire pour s’adapter à une grande variété de situations de tournage dans un environnement de production rapide et exigeant.

Congrats to the team of Tahmina, who wrapped production in Tunisia last week. A co-production between the Netherlands and Québec (produced here by our sister company Greenground Productions), the film, directed by Aboozar Amini, tells the story of the horrors of war, seen through the lens of ancient Afghan mythology.

A huge congrats to the camera team - DoP Alexandre Nour, Cam Op Benoît C. Gauthier, 1stD Daniel Duranlea, as well as the whole support team, for their gallant work in difficult circumstances (an A+ wrap considering the amount of dust and sand they were up against!).

Alex Nour Desjardins made the decision to go for the Venice II due in part to it's excellent versatility. Paired with our all-new Rialto Mini, True Lens Services Cooke s2 Panchros & our special Beijing 608 Great Wall lenses, Alex and team were able to produce stunning images in a wide variety of challenging set-ups in a fast-paced shooting environment.

La lumière, c’est son langage.

Formé en cinéma à Montréal puis à l’American Film Institute American Film Institute à Los Angeles, Éric Cayla, CSC, signe depuis plus de quarante ans des images qui ont marqué le cinéma québécois et canadien.
Des nominations aux Prix Génie pour “Karmina” et “Le Cri de la nuit”, aux Canadian Screen Awards pour “Bomb Girls” et “Haven”, en passant par “Shadowhunters” et “Single All the Way” sur Netflix... En 2014, la Canadian Society of Cinematographers Canadian Society of Cinematographers lui remettait le Kodak New Century Award, prix hommage pour l'ensemble de sa carrière.

C’est ce regard photographique, organique, pictural et contemplatif que nous vous invitons à découvrir chez nous, à Cineground, lors du vernissage de son exposition de photographie d’art, commissariée par Claire Sanford.

Trained in cinema in Montreal and at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, Éric Cayla, CSC, has spent over forty years crafting images that have defined Quebec and Canadian cinema.
Genie Award nominations for “Karmina” and “A Cry in the Night”, Canadian Screen Awards nominations for “Bomb Girls” and “Haven”, credits on “Shadowhunters” and “Single All the Way” on Netflix... In 2014, the Canadian Society of Cinematographers () honoured him with the Kodak New Century Award for lifetime achievement.

It is this photographic gaze — organic, painterly, contemplative — that we invite you to discover here at CineGround, at the vernissage of his fine-art photography exhibition, curated by Claire Sanford.

Nous sommes fiers d’avoir collaboré avec Le Répertoire et SummerHouse sur "I Forgot / Out of My Head", le film accompagnant les débuts musicaux de Cara Delevingne en tant qu’artiste solo.

Réalisé par Jessica Lee Gagné, ce court métrage audacieux et visuellement saisissant explore de nouvelles frontières narratives et esthétiques.

Pour donner vie à cette vision, Jessica et le directeur de la photographie Christophe Collette a choisi nos objectifs Statera Anamorphic, nés d’une collaboration entre et , apportant toute la richesse et le caractère recherchés à l’image.

Ce sont exactement les projets qui nous inspirent : des œuvres ambitieuses qui repoussent les limites, croisent les disciplines et rassemblent les meilleurs talents autour d’une vision forte.

We're proud to have collaborated with Le Répertoire and SummerHouse on "I Forgot / Out of My Head," the film accompanying Cara Delevingne's debut as a solo recording artist.

Directed by Jessica Lee Gagné, this bold and visually striking piece explores new creative territory through a distinctive blend of storytelling and cinematic craft.

To bring this vision to life, Jessica and cinematographer Christophe Collette selected our Statera Anamorphic lenses, born from a collaboration between Ancient Optics and Old Fast Glass, helping shape the rich visual language and character of the film.

Today, the short film Maya and Zia, directed by Karan Archana () and shot by DP Clémentine Martin, is in color grading in our 4K theatre room.

Supporting cinema is a matter of passion for us, regardless of format or scale. From short films to features, we walk with you from the very first frame to the final cut.

Our philosophy? Every story has its budget, and we adapt to each one — without ever compromising on quality. Case in point: it's our celebrated colourist Marc Boucrot who handles the grade. Marc genuinely loves working with emerging directors and DPs, helping them bring their images to life and unlock their full potential.

Beyond the color work, the team also relied on our camera department for the rental of the Great Wall Beijing 608 lenses — Rehoused by GLOptics, available in partnership with Maison de Verre.

Dans l'atelier de l'Orfèvre... 🛠️🎥

Aujourd'hui, on vous emmène dans les coulisses avec Marianne, notre Responsable Technique — ou "l'Orfèvre", comme on aime l'appeler !

Au programme : le démontage et remontage d’un monument du cinéma, le Cooke Varotal 25-250mm T4 MK2 Cooke Optics .

L'enquête du jour ? Un problème technique mystérieux... mais rien ne résiste à Marianne, qui a rapidement identifié le coupable : un cam follower endommagé !

Pourquoi on aime tant ce zoom ? La série Varotal était le fleuron de la compagnie Cooke durant les années 70-80. Véritable pilier des tournages de l'époque, ce modèle MKII offre le caractère légendaire de la marque, des flares magnifiques, des tons chair flatteurs et très peu de pompage, mais dans un format beaucoup plus compact et léger.

Chez nous, on ne fait pas que louer du matériel, on en prend soin avec passion !

Today, we’re taking you behind the scenes with Marianne, our Head Technician, or as we like to call her, the "Goldsmith"!
On the workbench today: a complete teardown and rebuild of a cinema legend, the Cooke Varotal 25-250mm T4 MK2.

Today's investigation? A mysterious technical issue... but nothing gets past Marianne, who quickly tracked down the culprit: a damaged cam follower!

Why do we love this zoom so much? The Varotal series was the flagship of the Cooke lineup during the 1970s and 80s. A true pillar of filmmaking at the time, this MKII model delivers the brand’s legendary character: gorgeous flares, flattering skin tones, and minimal focus breathing—but in a much more compact and lightweight housing.

Around here, we don't just rent out gear; we take care of it with passion!

On lance HORS-CHAMP, une nouvelle série de posts pour mettre en lumière des événements portés par la grande famille de Cineground. Et on ne pouvait pas mieux commencer.

“Surrender as Process” est une retraite de six jours pour 10 artistes pour explorer le format 16mm. Un espace pour laisser l'intuition primer sur la technique, et suivre la nature comme une guide.

Cette retraite sera menée par Jacquelyn Mills, réalisatrice originaire du Cap-Breton, aujourd'hui basée à Montréal. Son film “Geographies of Solitude” a gagné plus de 50 prix dans le monde, dont trois à la Berlinale, le prix du public à Hot Docs, et le prix Outstanding Artistry in Filmmaking au Smithsonian. Son cinéma, c'est un rapport direct, presque physique, au vivant.

Elle sera accompagnée de Benjamin R. Taylor, artiste et fondateur de Visions (.mtl) une série mensuelle vouée à la diffusion du cinéma d’art, et de la lumière collective, un microcinéma et studio d'artistes à Montréal.

We're launching HORS-CHAMP (Off-screen), a new series shining a light on events from the wider CineGround family. And we couldn't have asked for a better opening act.

“Surrender as Process” is a six-day retreat for 10 artists exploring the 16mm format. A space where intuition overrules technique, and nature leads the way.

The retreat will be led by Jacquelyn Mills, a filmmaker from Cape Breton, now based in Montréal. Her film “Geographies of Solitude” won over 50 awards worldwide, including three at the Berlinale, the audience prize at Hot Docs, and the Outstanding Artistry in Filmmaking Prize at the Smithsonian. Her cinema is direct, almost physical in its relationship to the living world.

She will be joined by Benjamin R Taylor. Taylor, artist and founder of Visions, a monthly series dedicated to art cinema, and la lumière collective, a microcinema and artist studio in Montréal.

L'étalonnage ne repose pas sur des transformations extrêmes. Ce sont souvent les ajustements les plus subtils qui font toute la différence.
Quelques corrections d'exposition, un travail minutieux de masques et de fenêtres pour isoler certaines zones de l'image, et de légères variations de teintes suffisent à guider le regard, renforcer une émotion et donner à une image toute sa profondeur, sans jamais trahir le travail de la direction photo. Le but n'est pas que l'on remarque les corrections, c'est que l'image paraisse naturellement juste.

Color grading isn't about extreme transformations. More often than not, it's the most subtle adjustments that make all the difference.
A few exposure corrections, careful masking and windowing to isolate specific areas of the image, and subtle shifts in hue are all it takes to guide the eye, deepen an emotion, and give an image its full weight, without ever betraying the work of the director of photography. The goal isn't for the corrections to be noticed. It's for the image to simply feel right.

Chez Cineground, nous soutenons le CFF - Concordia Film Festival depuis de nombreuses années, et cet événement représente beaucoup pour nous, puisque Cineground a été fondé par 3 étudiants en Production Cinéma de Concordia Concordia University, Faculty of Fine Arts C’est là que tout a commencé pour nous. Des festivals comme celui-ci sont au cœur de ce qui nous motive à faire ce que nous faisons.

Et quand une cinéaste raconte son histoire avec émotion, tissant ensemble les fragments du passé et les souvenirs familiaux pour leurs redonner vie, c’est là que le cinéma révèle toute sa force. Ella Riekki-Odle capture cela avec beaucoup de justesse dans "Forget Me Not". À la cérémonie, nous avons eu l'honneur de lui remettre le Prix du Meilleur Film, Arno Faure , notre Brand Manager, était là pour célébrer ce moment.

Merci aux deux co-directeurs du festival, Adrian Korin et Akhan Aiado, ainsi qu’à toute l’équipe pour l’organisation de cet événement.

At Cineground, we’ve been supporting the Concordia Film Festival for many years, and it truly means a lot to us because Cineground was founded by 3 Concordia film students. This is where it all began for us. Festivals like this are at the heart of why we do what we do.

And when a filmmaker tells a story with emotion, weaving together fragments of the past and family memories into something alive again, that's when cinema becomes truly powerful. Ella Riekki-Odle achieves exactly this in "Forget Me Not." At the ceremony, we had the honor of presenting her with the Best Film Award, with Arno Faure, our Brand Manager, there to celebrate the moment.

Thanks to the two festival co-directors, Adrian Korin and Akhan Aiado, and to the entire festival team for organizing such a great event.
