MEXICO SITUATION AS OF FEBRUARY 22
If you have seen information circulating about a recent travel advisory in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, here are some important clarifications, especially if you are considering the Mexican Caribbean region for your vacation.
First, take a moment to breathe.
📍 Puerto Vallarta is located on Mexico’s Pacific Coast.
📍 Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya, and Tulum are on the Caribbean side.
These are completely different regions of the country.
To give you an idea:
✈️ Puerto Vallarta → Cancún/Riviera Maya
• Nearly 1,100 miles apart (about 1,770 km)
• Approximately a 4-hour flight
• More than 24 hours by car
This is comparable to the distance between states like Florida and New York. They are not neighboring destinations.
The current advisory applies specifically to the Puerto Vallarta/Jalisco region and does not involve the Mexican Caribbean tourist area.
🌴 The Caribbean region, including Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Costa Mujeres, and Tulum, is operating mostly as normal and continues to welcome visitors every day.
Please continue to exercise caution while traveling, just as you would anywhere at any time. Stay within your resort and designated tourist areas, avoid venturing off the beaten path, and always remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings. The situation can change, so it is important to follow and verify official sources of information.
Travel smart, stay aware, and enjoy your stay safely.
