On a cobbled street in the heart of the Plateau is The House of Friendship. In the summer months, the student residences turn into a guesthouse. We have rooms available for short-term stay or for the entire summer (May - mid August). Longer-term guests more than two weeks require an application process. We offer private accommodation with shared bath and kitchen. Rooms and kitchen are fully furnished.

There are barely any physical traces of the time when the equivalent of 12% of Montreal's population died from typhus as 70,000 often starving Irish immigrants arrived by ship in Montreal. Many members of religious orders helping out and even the mayor succumbed to the disease. The Summer of Sorrow occurred 170 years ago and is easily one of Montreal's most traumatic events, and yet very few people even know that it occurred.

Beyond Black Rock: Plans for a memorial park to honour as many as 6,000 typhus victims from the Summer of Sorrow appear to be in jeopardy.
