Here at James Bay Adventures we have completed our inaugural canoe expedition. Our first group of paddlers chose the Moose River to the salt water trip. Paddling nearly the entire length of the Moose River, 44 miles of fun paddling, mixed with class 2 and 3 rapids and plenty of fishing on the way down. Our elder clients were 79 and 80, and completed a trip that started years ago when they paddled the Missinaibi, now they have finished what they had started and made it to the salt water of James Bay and I am happy to have played a part in that lifetime journey.

My vision of starting a tripping company was driven by love of the land that I grew up on, but also by witnessing years of severe under representation of Indigenous people paddling the canoe routes we have paddled since time immemorial. It is time we took a larger piece of the eco tourism, cultural tourism, heritage and hospitality industries as Indigenous peoples.

There are great operators in the region such as Moose Cree Tourism, Northern Spirit Adventures and the Tozers at Onakawana, but the vast majority of tripping and tour companies are from out of region and the vast majority of money goes out of region.

We aim to change that, bringing people to our region as guests and spreading the wealth within the communities is very important to me, as there is very little private industry in the local economy.

Also just as important is offering an authentic Indigenous experience. I love sharing my culture and cuisine, exposing people to the language and sharing the beauty of the James Bay region. The people of James bay are the only people who can accurately represent the culture and history of James Bay. I am happy to say that James Bay Adventures is committed to providing authentic, Indigenous experiences.

We are so excited for what the future has in store for all of our guests and visitors.
