Preparation is key to preventing emergencies and ensuring a smooth, enjoyable outing.

👉 Check that your boat is properly equipped

👉 Ensure you have enough fuel
👉 Tell someone you trust where you are going and when you expect to return
👉 Carry both required and “good‑to‑have” safety gear

❄️🌊 Tip 3: Be Cold Water Safe
Cold water can shock your system, weaken your muscles, and make it difficult to swim - even for strong swimmers. While we know boaters are keen to get the season started, the temperatures of the water in May remain cold.

👉 Always wear a properly fitted lifejacket
👉 Know the water temperature before heading out
👉 Avoid sudden entry into cold water when possible
👉 Understand the stages of cold‑water immersion

Cold water is powerful. Preparation saves lives.

🚫🍺 Tip 2: Boat Responsibly
Boating under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, or impairing medications is dangerous - and illegal.

Operating a vessel requires full attention, quick reactions, and clear judgment. Impairment puts you, your passengers, and others on the water at risk.

👉 Avoid alcohol and drugs before and during boating
👉 Know how your prescription medications may affect you
👉 Designate a sober operator for every outing
👉 Know the laws for drivers and passengers

A clear mind keeps everyone safe.

Safe Boating Awareness Week is here! 🚤💙
As we head into boating season, it’s the perfect time to put safety first. All week long, we’ll be sharing tips in line with the Canadian Safe Boating Council to help you enjoy the water with confidence and care.

🦺 Tip 1: Wear Your Lifejacket
Over 80% of Canadians who drown while boating weren’t wearing a lifejacket - or weren’t wearing it properly.

With so many comfortable, activity‑specific, options available today, there’s no reason to leave the dock without one.

👉 Choose a lifejacket suited to your water activity
👉 Make sure it fits well and is properly fastened
👉 Wear it every time you’re on the water
👉 Know the rules for required PFDs on board

Your lifejacket only works when you wear it. Stay safe this season. 💛

🚤 It’s officially Opening Day at the Marina!
The boats are launching, the sun is shining (at least right now 😅) and the season is finally here. We can’t wait to welcome both new and familiar faces as we kick off another great year on the water.

And good news for our land‑loving visitors - the campground is already open, so the fun has already begun on shore too.

Here’s to sunshine, smooth sailing, and an amazing season ahead.

We're double posting! To tell you about🚤 Free Boat Safety Checks 🚤 May 16, 2026!

Join Iroquois Marine Search & Rescue from 10 a.m – 2 p.m. for free Pleasure Craft Courtesy Checks and a fundraising BBQ.

A Courtesy Check is a free, voluntary, no‑fines safety inspection by trained Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary volunteers. They make sure you’ve got the required safety gear, including lifejackets, fire extinguishers, sound signals, and navigation lights.

Its a quick process where a volunteer boards your boat at the dock for 15–30 minutes, checks equipment, and offers recommendations if anything’s missing.

Get your boat summer‑ready and safe for the season!
