In January of 1975, a couple of newlyweds by the name of Beate and Lothar van Helden departed from their native Germany, to make a new home in Canada. United by a shared sense of faith, community and family, they and their four children swiftly became active members of every neighbourhood they inhabited, from Montreal, to Cornwall to Mississauga.

sire to connect with their neighbours took shape in the beloved Green Apron Restaurant, in Mississauga's historic Streetsville Village.

It was the winter of 2010 with the van Helden's story would find a new setting in Dorset Ontario. Beate and Lothar instantly recognized the unique splendour of their surroundings and were filled with the desire to welcome others to their Northern Ontario hideaway. Beate and Lothar van Helden invite you to be written into their story, with a stay at Dorset's Bread and Butter Inn.

Reminder: Celebration of Life
Date: Saturday July 13th, 2024 at 1PM EST
Location: Zachary's Restaurant 1066 Main St. Dorset, ON
Lunch will be served, followed by a short service and then some coffee and desserts

All are welcome to come celebrate the life of my amazing mom in 'beateful' Dorset, Ontario. We will share memories, songs and fill the room with love and laughter, just as my mom would have wanted.

Dress code is casual and bright. The less black, the better, but we understand that could be the majority of one's closet. 🙂

We're celebrating the 'beateful' life of our mom, Beate Van Helden on July 13th, just down the road from the very place that brought her so much joy.

If you would like to join us, please RSVP by July 10th.

For those unable to attend in person, a LIVE STREAM link will be set up for the ceremony portion of the event.

My heart is filled with sadness on the passing of my amazing mother, Beate van Helden. On June 13th, 2024 she was surrounded by her family as she peacefully went to join God in heaven. My mom had blessed me with an amazing childhood, all the while juggling 4 very different children’s needs. She made the best food, had the best witty jokes and cared for EVERYONE as if they were her own children. I don’t have all the words right now, but I will miss you very much mom. ⚡️🌈
