1 bedroom Cabin located at Rock Island Resort 21km south of Nakusp, BC Review #27547366

My husband and I were looking for a quiet, peaceful, middle-of-nowhere place to escape to where we could completely unplug while also being able to kayak without worrying about tons of motorboats zooming around us. A tall order, but we found it here. Our week at the cabin was pure heaven! The bed was super comfy, the water was HOT for showers, the cupboards had everything we needed. Great to have the BBQ right outside our door. Our hosts were lovely, check in was speedy and we never saw them again simply because we didn't need anything. But we knew they were right there and available if we had needed them. It took us 9.5 hours to get there from Maple Ridge but that included a super quick fast food stop for lunch & gas, plus a 45 min wait for the ferry. We thought it would feel like a LONG drive but the scenery was so pretty on the way up, the ferry ride was charming, and it felt like we got there in no time at all. And once there, we knew it was worth the drive. The property is beautiful and well maintained while still keeping a wonderful natural feel. A huge grassy area for playing games and a sandy patch too. Best of all, for us, we could take our kayaks down and launch directly from the property right into the water. And once we were on the water it was paradise. We were skeptical when we were told we wouldn't see many other boats, and we literally did not see a single other boater - the whole week we were there! And we kayaked 3 hours to the north or south of the lake each day and back. It was SO peaceful out on the water with the lake literally to ourselves - unbelievable. If you get out on the water and head south on the lake, there's an arm that heads West that you have to explore. When you get a little ways in, you can no longer see the rest of the lake, and you truly feel in the middle of nowhere. All you can hear is the multitude of birds chirping, the wind in the trees and the occasional sploosh of fish jumping - for us this was paradise and the reason we came. My husband grew up in Paris, and he kept saying "THIS is the Canada you see in the movies!" :-) Thank you Bill and Susan for such a relaxing and restorative vacation - we'll be back. Christine & Antoine

Canadian, eh? This Bald Eagle sat here for over an hour this morning. The flag pole is only 2 inches across.
