On behalf of the Sandon Historical Society, you are cordially invited to join us for the Slocan Valley premiere of "1910: The Uncovering" โ€“ the latest Nikkei history documentary by part-time resident Chad Townsend.

This powerful film will be screened at New Denver's Knox Hall at 6 pm on Friday, March 6, along with two other short films with a Japanese-Canadian theme. The event is a fundraiser with admission by donation (via cash or card).

"1910: The Uncovering" examines the tragic Rogers Pass avalanche that killed 58 railway workers, most of Japanese descent, and features Revelstoke's Tomo Fujimura, a ski guide and avalanche expert.

We hope to see you there! ๐Ÿ˜€

We highly recommend the cross-country skiing in Sandon! At just over 1000m we are fortunate to have more snow, the trails are dog-friendly and this year we have a new woodburner in the toasty warming shelter and ski equipment to use by donation! ๐Ÿคฉ A real bonus is your glide through history with lots to see! ๐Ÿ˜€

Looking to get out on skis? There is still some winter left! Check out my new Cross Country Ski Guide to the West Kootenay!

Cross country skiing (also called nordic skiing) is a great way to get out and enjoy the mountains. The West Kootenay is home to several ski clubs with beautiful trail networks! Read on to learn where and how you can venture out on skis!

Keep in mind that we're having a low-snow year down in the valley so conditions vary at the various clubs. Most clubs publish a page with grooming updates and recent conditions .

Another great reason to visit our beautiful area!

Weโ€™re honoured to introduce the Japanese Canadian Legacy Trail โ€” a new, self-guided journey that invites you to explore the cultural and historical landscape of Arrow Slocan region.

This heritage initiative honours the legacy of Japanese Canadians who were forcibly displaced to the BC interior during the Second World War, and who went on to rebuild their lives here with resilience, dignity, and strength. While many former camp sites no longer physically exist, their stories remain deeply connected to this land.

The Japanese Canadian Legacy Trail connects museums, memorials, and historic locations, offering a way to travel with intention โ€” to experience the past as you walk the present.

Explore the history and legacy of Japanese Canadian resilience over on the Japanese Canadian Legacy Trail page. ๐Ÿ’ฎ

Big news from our little valley.
The Slocan Valley has been named one of BBC's 20 Best Places to Travel in 2026, and itโ€™s the only Canadian destination on the list.

A quiet place, tucked between peaks and lakes, filled with trailheads, hot springs, and people who care deeply about this land. Itโ€™s always been special to us. And now, the worldโ€™s starting to catch on.โ

Whether youโ€™ve been here before or just added it to your list, welcome to the Arrow Slocan. A journey worth taking.
