If you’re a birder, you probably already know about this. Birders are flocking to our little town of Whiteway to see this extremely rare, extremely large Russian eagle right next to our cottages! The only place in North America…tours happening daily!
Good day! Just a quick update on the sea-eagle. Her perch continues to be on the north side of Whiteway around Salmon Point and red rocks. Today we toured birders and photographers from across Canada and from Tennessee.
Here is a picture we took for avid birder Cynthia for her record. The conditions were very bright but the seas were calm. The sea-eagle remained in the same area just about all morning.
In the afternoon we watched the sea-eagle fly towards gulls feeding on caplin, and she dipped, banked, glided and grabbed caplin of her own. It was an amazing sight. The sea-eagle flew back to salmon point, perched and ate her catch. Very cool! We also went to Green’s Harbour point to check on the eaglet and she has left the nest. We found her on a grassy point several hundred feet from the nest and was being watched by a parent.
On our last trip today, we found the sea-eagle close to red rocks, perched on a high tree. We managed to get a few pictures, and stopped by the s**g rock for a few more sea bird photos including the greater cormorant who we missed in the morning. The wind picked up so we took a run to backside cove and then headed back to the dock with the wind at our back.
All-in-all we had another successful day finding and recording the sea-eagle.
Right now it looks like it will be windy for the next couple of days. We will post an update on the next day we can tour.
