Have you ever wondered how the Prince of Wales Hotel got its royal name?

The Prince of Wales Hotel first opened in 1864 as Long's Hotel and, over the years, transformed through several names, including The Arcade Hotel and The Niagara House.

In 1901, after a visit from the Duke and Duchess of York, later King George V and Queen Mary, it was officially renamed the Prince of Wales Hotel.

More than 160 years later, its storied past, distinctive Victorian architecture, and warm hospitality continue to make it one of Niagara-on-the-Lake's most beloved destinations.
