The latest release with my pal Nigel Napier-Andrews is a short backstory about the name of our B&B and a prominent fella from the olden days, Lt. Col. John Butler. So much history here in the Niagara Riviera and our spot is no exception 🔔🥃

From time to time we encounter travelers who have difficulty accepting our cancellation policy. We advise purchasing travel insurance if you have any concerns about needing to cancel. Covid is far from over and winter travel is always risky. A quick 'Travel Insurance' Google search will guide you to several options.

Five years ago we began the process of turning this much neglected B&B into one we are now very proud of. Now it and a piece of the Niagara Riviera can be yours. We want to thank all of our guests for making this such a great adventure over the years.

Situated in Old Town Niagara-on-the-Lake, our home would make a stellar single family home, a turn key B&B or an excellent investment opportunity as a Vacation Rental Property.

The Ontario Government’s “Roadmap to Reopening” is a dead-end for the performing arts, outdoor venues, festivals and events.

After a year of shuttered venues, lost revenue streams and amongst the most severe levels of unemployment compared to any other industry in Canada, we are ready to safely reopen our stages for artists and audiences. But the current guidelines would leave arts and culture behind, denying arts lovers the equal access that restaurants, sports, and religious services will be allowed to offer.

We implore you to make your voice heard TODAY in demanding fairness for arts and culture in Ontario as part of the campaign that Ontario performing arts organizations are launching today.

We demand :

→ Reopen rehearsals in Step 1 so we can be ready to begin performances in Step 2.
→ Allow filming inside performance spaces in Step 1 so theatres can deliver content digitally.
→ Set capacity limits for outdoor and indoor theatres based on square footage so we can maximize safe audience access in different sized venues.

These are accommodations that have already been granted to industries like sport, film & television and meetings & events.

The arts are an essential part of our Ontario. We need now.

📣 Help TODAY by:

→ Making some noise and reposting this message to amplify.

→ Go to https://canadianlivemusic.ca/fairnessforartson/ to send letters to the Premier, Ministers, MPPs, municipal leaders and representatives. Enter your name and postal code, and the site will automatically send your message to your local representatives with pre-generated text.

Hello America, specifically to our border friends and past guests, we miss you!

To any of you directly affected by sickness or loss due to the virus we send you our deepest heartfelt wishes, know that it has struck very close to us. But we're still here playing host to Canadians from coast to coast and looking to you to make the right choice on your upcoming election day.

The only way the longest unprotected border in the world will open to you again, is if the number of cases in the pandemic show a steady decline there. Clearly that won't happen anytime soon if the guy you have in charge now stays in office.

So for your sake and ours, and for the worlds do the right thing and elect a president. For too many years now you've been landing on our doorstep apologizing for not having one.

Here's to healthier days ahead.

It's true, we have an absolutely beautiful town by the water here but if your coming to visit us this year please understand we are not a "beach" community and extra so right now.

Record high water temps in the entire Great Lakes Basin this year are contributing to deadly toxicity levels in the water. My advice, stay out of it and do not let your dogs near it!

The Coloured Corps and Fort Mississauga

The Coloured Corps fought in several battles during the War of 1812. In the early months of 1814, they were assigned to serve as a company of artificers – soldiers who performed engineering and construction duties. This new role was important to the war effort as damaged forts had to be repaired and a new fort had to be built. The British army was in short supply of skilled tradesmen. Many members of the Coloured Corps had become skilled tradesmen during their years of bo***ge, prior to gaining their freedom.

Fort Mississauga was built on a point of land where the Niagara River flows into Lake Ontario. The initial work by the Coloured Corps included digging trenches and constructing the outer defence wall. The beginnings of a stone and brick tower, the powder magazines and barracks were soon built. The constant threat of attack would have made construction efforts extremely dangerous, perhaps causing them to work under the cover of darkness.
The Coloured Corps remained in their role as artificers because their skills and manpower were desperately needed in order to complete the fort.
When the Coloured Corps was disbanded in 1815, Fort Mississauga was not complete. The tower was completed in 1823 but the fort itself remained unfinished. It stands to this day as a testament to the Coloured Corps who helped build it under the stressful conditions of war: enemy gunfire, the scarcity of resources and the constant threat of hunger and disease. A national historic site, Fort Mississauga was proudly built by Black hands.
