Effective tomorrow, August 28 at noon the Off-road vehicle ban for the Cariboo will be rescinded.

Effective tomorrow, Friday August 28, at noon PDT the Off Road Vehicle (ORV) prohibition is rescinded in the Southeast, Cariboo, Coastal and Kamloops Fire Centres.

We recognize that ORVs play an important role in recreation, hunting and accessing the outdoors for many. Restrictions are only considered when multiple factors indicate an elevated wildfire risk, heightened wildfire activity and limited capacity to respond to new fire starts.

With improving conditions in some regions of B.C., and cooler wetter weather in the forecast we are now able to rescind these prohibitions. We continue to monitor wildfire risk and prohibitions may be implemented or rescinded as conditions change.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation shown by ORV users during this period. We know many riders take fire prevention seriously and recreate responsibly on established roads and trails. If you're returning to the backcountry, we ask for your support in reporting any new wildfires through our app or by calling *5555.

Niiiiice... Ralph is going to be so happy (seriously!) to pump out the rental boats once again. It's only been half a day since he's done that last. 🙂

Today has been a bit of a hazy one here at Fawn Lake (pictures were taken at 6.20pm) - with a light wind coming from the South. The smoke layers are quite high up and you can't smell anything, but it's still not as beautiful as we would like it to be.
If you'd like to look at where the smoke in your/our area is origination from, visit the BC Wildfire Service webpage, and within the map view click on smoke forecast. This creates a self-explanatory animation of the wildfire smoke pattern.

The crux of "current 24/7 information" is to decipher its accuracy. My weather app shows smoky conditions for Fawn Lake Resort, Lone Butte, at 10.26am on Monday, August 17. My camera, however, captures the blue sky with scattered clouds. The weather station, obviously, isn't anywhere near my location. The only source of true and accurate information is the person on the ground. Call them, text them or send an e-mail & inquire about current conditions - It's a beautiful day on the Fishing Highway 24!
