β οΈRiver Safety Notice β Lake Diefenbaker & South Saskatchewan River β οΈ
The Water Security Agency (WSA) has announced a significant increase in outflows from Gardiner Dam, including the operation of the spillway, beginning June 7.
This action follows recent rainfall in Alberta and expected above-normal mountain runoff later this month. Outflows will increase from approximately 280 mΒ³/s to 700 mΒ³/s, with peak flows anticipated around June 11 before gradually declining. The last time the spillway gates were operated was in 2020.
As a result:
π The South Saskatchewan River is expected to rise approximately 1.4 metres through Moon Lake and 0.6 metres in Saskatoon.
β οΈ River currents will become faster and more hazardous.
π« No out-of-bank flooding is expected at this time.
π Please use extra caution around the river and stay a safe distance from Gardiner Dam and the spillway area while operations are underway.
Whether you're boating, fishing, paddling, or enjoying the shoreline, be aware of changing river conditions and put safety first.
