Well, its been awhile and a lot has been going on in the background but the cat's outta the bag!! Boo and company are moving on to their next adventure and location. If you missed the opportunity to visit their beautiful dwelling is on the market.

💙🐻 Breeding season mainly occurs during June and as cute as I am it's not easy for a blue bear to find a gal. Since most bears avoid activity during the heat of summer days, preferring to lounge in the shade or rest high up in a tree I do have an advantage...my cool and comfy cabin should impress a few gals!

Pack your towel, the picnic basket and head to Antlers Beach Regional Park!

Situated at the edge of Peachland right off of Highway 97 this long pebbled/white sand beach is a popular spot with stunning views of Okanagan Lake. There are also picnic tables and outhouses available for public use.

The most rewarding aspect of hosting guests at The Den is the opportunity to connect with people from all walks of life. So far this summer we've had the pleasure of hosting guests who originated from Croatia, Germany, Bulgaria and Turkey

This lovely couple who moved to Canada from Dubai in 2020, stayed at The Den last week while they toured parts of the Okanagan. We got chatting over a glass of wine which resulted in planning a few laid-back adventures with them. We did a day trip to Penticton, Naramata, attended the local farmer's market, crawled around in a field at a strawberry U-pick farm, a meal at a local pub...and discovered the formation of a new friendship!

Our summer guests staying on the property, meet a member of the Quail family. We want them to feel safe and have all that they need while they're here.

💦We added a source of Water: Quail prefer low, secluded ground birdbaths with shallow basins for quick drinks or, rarely, baths. They often feel too exposed to take advantage of pedestal or elevated baths, but adding a dripper to a ground bath will attract their attention and let them know about the water source. Positioning the bath near a dense shrub can add extra security for nervous birds.

🌳We protected their Shelter: These birds feel safest in yards with abundant, dense shrubs and thicket-like patches where they can easily retreat. Coniferous or evergreen plants are best for year-round shelter, and quail may also sample berries, particularly in winter. Ideally, sheltered spaces should create accessible corridors through the yard so the birds can move from place to place without feeling exposed.

Boo and friends are awake from their winter slumber...and so are the wild bears.

Spring is a busy time for wildlife; especially bears as they emerge from their winter dens hungry and in search of calories after five months of not eating. During this time of increased activity, it is important for homeowners and hikers to secure un-natural food sources to reduce bear encounters.

Bears typically emerge from their dens early April. During hibernation bears may lose up to 40 percent of their body weight as females also give birth to their offspring while they are in their dens.

When they emerge, natural foods may be scarce, and bears often look for the easiest source of food, which may include garbage, bird feeders, and fruit trees. People are often tempted to feed bears as they may appear sluggish and thin when they emerge from their dens. You should never attempt to approach or provide food for bears.

The renos in The Den are now complete and we welcomed our first guests yesterday!! Looking forward to chatting with them to hear about their Okanagan adventures.

This year we will use just one platform (AirBnB) for guests to book their stay in The Den. AirBnB is more popular with an average of 7 million listings, vs VRBO has only 2 million. From our experience last year, AirBnB resulted in 85% of our bookings, the guests were wonderful and we'd happily host any of them again.💙🐻

🐻💙Over the winter some modifications and improvements have been done in The Den and we are excited for our second season hosting guests visiting the Okanagan!

THE SPACE
The Den is more than just a suite, it is spacious, ground level, self-contained with your own private entrance and a designated parking spot just for you. The décor has been chosen to provoke conversation, spark memories of days gone by and enhance your visit. Many of the items you’ll find decorating the space are relics used by our family (likely yours too). What more do you need?

The living/dining space has a comfy couch, an eating area with a lakeview, wall-to-wall shelves containing conversation pieces, books, as well as a USB charging station.
The bedroom contains a comfy queen-size bed, antique desk and dresser with some of our favorite artwork adorning the walls. *Ask about additional sleeping accomodations.
The bathroom has a newly tiled shower, large bar sink, and makeup vanity so you can leave your items out. Loads of room for two people to get ready.
The kitchenette is equipped with fridge, microwave, egg poacher, toaster, coffee pot, kettle, George Forman grill, cutlery and dishes. Upon arrival you’ll receive a Welcome basket... maybe even a homemade sweet treat.

THE OUTDOOR SPACE
It will be hard to decide which space you will enjoy more…both have lakeviews! Your sunshine patio has two loungers and is partially surrounded by low-growing cedars, perfect for sun-bathing or enjoying an evening of star gazing. There's also your own dining area complete with BBQ and utensils to cook outdoors, if you wish.

The suite also has great features that include high speed internet, Prime video, Netflix, cable TV, books and board games if the weather is inclement…which is rare!

Hello!! 💙🐻 I am hopeful you've had a joyous Christmas, rang in the new year filled with optimism and are acclimatizing to winter in Canada. Sure has been a cold, wet winter here at The Den but the moisture is appreciated.

While my humans are busy doing modifications to the suite and clearing out the Christmas decorations I thought I'd share a few home maintenance tips with you:
❄Change the batteries in the smoke detectors and push the test button.
❄Turn your fire extinguisher upside down and hit the bottom with a rubber mallet until it sounds hollow. This breaks up the powder so it will work properly when needed!
❄If you use gas please be sure you have a Carbon Monoxide detector too.

It's a few easy tasks you can do every January to help you stay safe! Blessings to you, I'm going back to bed for another month or two🐻💤
