With Joni the Jersey cow due to calve any day now, it’s time for us to start looking for a new forever home for Missy, our other Jersey, and her beautiful calf.

As much as we’d love to keep them all, two purebred Jersey milk cows produce far more milk than our family can possibly use. Rather than see that incredible milk go to waste, we’d love to find a family or farm that will enjoy and appreciate everything Missy has to offer.

Missy is a gentle purebred Jersey producing rich A2A2 milk, and she comes with a half Scottish Highland bull calf at side.

If you know someone who has been dreaming of having their own family milk cow, or a farm looking to add a quality Jersey to their herd, please send them our way. We’d be happy to share everything we’ve learned about caring for Missy and answer any questions.

Welcome to Sweetwater little guy. Born May 7th, 2026. This beauty little bull is Missy’s & Norman’s first calf. We think he kinda looks like dad but we’ll let decide.

We are sad to say that the last remaining OG farm animal left us last week. Michael Jackson (MJ) arrived 2 weeks after we moved onto Sweetwater. He arrived mostly black with white paws the day the human MJ died. We were convinced he was the reincarnation of the real MJ and named him so.

Initially a very stealthy mouser he slowed in later years preferring the front step of the cabin where he could greet our guests and ensure they felt at home.

We’ll miss this old fella and want to thank him for his years of service and companionship on this wild homestead ride. Vale MJ

It’s an early ban but worthy to note. We have rolled out the propane fire pit in place of real wood fires for any guests staying with us this summer.

Effective at 12 p.m. PDT on Thursday, May 7, Category 1, Category 2, and Category 3 open fires are prohibited across the Coastal Fire Centre. The exception is the Haida Gwaii Forest District, where Category 1 campfires are permitted.

These measures are being taken to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires associated with open burning activities.

This prohibition will remain in place until October 31, 2026, or until it is rescinded.

Always check with your local government before burning, as they may have their own prohibitions in place.
