It's National Accessibility Week in Canada!

Here are some easy things we did to improve accessibility at our Inn:

We painted a strip of yellow at the edge of our steps to improve visibility.

We compiled a list of wheelchair accessible places around our Peninsula.

We lowered a section of our front desk to a height comfortable for wheelchair users.

We slanted our deck boards gradually to the entry, with long wooden wedges we made and nailed to the joists. Now there's not a big bump at the entry.

We made narrow display shelves for the center of our Gallery and Gift Shop so it is roomy and uncluttered.

We have a low table to display our tourist information.

We gathered accessibility aids for customers to use during their stay.

We use image descriptions on social media.

We follow social media accounts where we find great information about accessibility, like Access YYT and we've learned a LOT from customers and feedback on social media. Thank you to everyone who has shared accessibility information with us!

Today marks the beginning of National AccessAbility Week in Canada. This is a week to celebrate the contributions of Canadians with disabilities and the efforts and accomplishments of those who work to remove and prevent barriers to accessibility and inclusion.

Tonight, Government House will glow red to recognize all persons who advance inclusion in communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

Book a stay in theme room Bayman's Cove for that "Round the Bay" feeling! It has a comfy king bed, a full washroom with tub and shower - it's $135/night.

ID - the king bed is covered with a red and cream patterned quilt andhe walls are covered in weathered clapboard. There's a fake window above the bed with a painting of a couple men in an old fashioned kitchen. There's an old door in the corner with antique decor above it.

A guest told us our list "Accessible Places to go on Bonavista Peninsula" is his favorite accessibility aid. It takes a huge amount of time to plan a trip - just to see where they can actually get in.

We'd love to share the list with anyone who could use it - just pop us an email.

We'd love to hear about other places on the Peninsula that are wheelchair accessible too!

Specialize in homemade desserts, coffee and tea. Live music most Saturday nights around 8pm. They have a long, large ramp and accessible washrooms.
The Boreal Diner, 62 Church Street, Bonavista (709) 476-2330. The main level is wheelchair accessible with a ramp they can out at the front door, on request.
Skipper's Restaurant, Bonavista 468-7982
Open 7am to 9pm daily, Indoor and outdoor dining and wheelchair accessible washrooms.
PKs Restaurant, Bonavista (709) 468-2828
Restaurant is accessible but washrooms are not.
Ragged Rocks Gastropub, Bonavista (709) 468-7678, 80 Chirch Street indoor and outdoor seating. Open daily 11am to 11 pm. Ramp at the side for entry, and the washrooms are accessible.
