⚠️REMINDER: Propane fires only!⚠️

We are NOT lifting the fire ban at China Creek this long weekend, which means NO fires at the cookhouse. Thanks for your understanding and helping us protect our region.

The Mount Underwood fire last year came a little too close to home, so we made the really difficult decision to have PROPANE FIRES ONLY this season.

It's not ideal, we know. Each year is getting hotter, dryer, and while the winds at China Creek are epic for kiteboarding, all of those factors combined make the risks high.

Propane fires will help keep everyone and this beautiful place safe. Still cozy. Still s’mores-worthy. Just a little more controlled.

As long as there is no provincial fire ban in place fires are okay at the communal cookhouse. 🔥

If you're looking to enjoy a fire at the cookhouse you can do so until Thursday, May 7, at 12:00 p.m. The fire ban will remain in place until October 31, 2026, or until the order is rescinded.

Please be aware that the BC Wildfire Service Coastal Fire Centre is implementing a fire ban on Category 1 (campfires), and Category 2 & Category 3 (open fires) starting Thursday, May 7, at 12:00 p.m. (noon). This prohibition will remain in place until October 31, 2026, or until the order is rescinded.

This fire ban applies to the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District Government, City of Port Alberni Local Government, and areas within the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

During this fire ban, the following activities are also restricted:
❌ Sky lanterns
❌ Binary exploding targets
❌ Fireworks
❌ Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description
❌ Air curtain burners
❌ Carbonizers
❌ Controlled air incinerators
❌ Wood fired hot tubs, wood fired pizza ovens and other wood fired devices unless vented through a structure that has a flue and is incorporated in a building.

✅ Please note: This prohibition does not include the use of outdoor stoves. As per the Wildfire Regulation, an outdoor stove is a CSA-rated or ULC-rated device used outdoors for cooking, heat, or ambiance that burns charcoal briquettes, liquid fuel, or gaseous fuel, and has a flame height that is less than 15 cm tall.
