Ok I’m at the lodge, listening to one of Chris Morgan’s podcasts about roads affecting our ecology:
How America’s roads alter our ecology, with Ben Goldfarb (reprise)
They tell me that in the lower 48 states of the US you are within 20 miles of a road with the exception of a tiny corner of Yellowstone National Park where the distance is slightly greater. I look up and glance at this landscape around Great Bear Lodge where the nearest real road is back on Vancouver Island over 50 miles distant, even farther in other directions. TBT: Seven wolves prance in front of a trail camera in East Slough back on Jan 29, 2025 . This is the biggest pack I have seen here, the same wolves that were seen from my office in April. Fun with wolves, have a great day!

As our season winds to a close over the next few days, we are enjoying bears slowing down in antcipation of the coming hibernation. They spend their time sleeping, eating dead spawned out salmon and digging salmon eggs as if in slow motion in front of one of our viewing platforms . Fun with bears, have a great day!

Three siblings, entering their first salmon fishing season without mom, walked by one of the viewing platforms recently. One of the two males even tried fishing but to no avail! These are not Roxanne’s triplets as they are still with her. . Fun with bears, have a great day!

Took a break and went out on a boat safari last Monday night ! Spotted some old friends. Diablita, who we’ve known for 10 years, decided to walk by our parked boat with cubs in tow. Fun with Bears, have a great day.
