2026 Youth Summer Positions

The qathet Regional District is accepting applications from youth ages 15 to 30 for three (3) summer positions.

Shelter Point Regional Park: work term May 15 – September 7
Haywire Bay Regional Park: work term May 15 – September 7
Powell River Cemetery: work term May 11 – August 29, 2026

Wage rate is $23.36 per hour. Positions are covered by a union contract under CUPE Local 798. Work schedule: 7 hours per day, 5 days per week, with two consecutive days off. Park employees must work weekends and holidays.

Park and Cemetery applicants must be physically strong, familiar with basic maintenance tools and equipment, capable of physical work in an outdoor setting, and be good with the public. Applicants must also have their own transportation to and from work.

The qathet Regional District is accepting applications from youth ages 15 to 30 for three (3) summer positions.

BC Wildfire Service: Coastal Fire Centre to enact Category 1 Open Fire Prohibition

PARKSVILLE – Effective at 12:00 p.m. (noon) PDT on Thursday, July 17, 2025, campfires will be prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre, excluding the Haida Gwaii Forest District and the portion of the Central Coast Regional District that falls within the North Island Central Coast Forest District. This prohibition is being enacted to help prevent human caused wildfires and protect public safety.

Category 2 and Category 3 open fire prohibitions remain in place for the Coastal Fire Centre's jurisdiction, with the exception that Category 2 open fires will be allowed in the Haida Gwaii Forest District. These prohibitions will be in place until October 31, 2025, or until the order is rescinded.
