Have you ever fallen victim to misleading trail markers?

Does a cold sweat break across your brow when you suddenly realize it's been a little too long since the last marker?

You stop... squint down the trail... turn around... "Was I supposed to go left at that fork?"

A feeling of uncertainty creeps in. Maybe even betrayal.

You did follow a trail marker... but it somehow led you the wrong way...

FEAR NO MORE!

Our trail crew has been busy installing brand-new trail markers throughout the trail system to help keep everyone headed in the right direction.

The next time you go for a hike, you'll be guided by:

🟡 Yellow markers along the Angel's Point Trail.
🔴 Red markers along the Angel’s Point Bike Trail.
🔵 Blue markers along the Rangers Point, River, and Grawbarger Trails.
🟠 + 🪞 Bright orange markers with silver reflective strips along the Fire Tower Trail.
🟤 + 🪞 Light brown markers with orange reflective strips along the Gibbs Trail.

These reflective strips will help guide your adventures during evening hikes when daylight starts to fade — perfect for catching those sunset views without the worry of losing your way!

One of our favourite things about camping season is seeing the outdoors through your eyes. 👀
Restoule has a special place in the hearts of many campers who venture here, and photos like this show exactly why!

Captured last season at Bass Lake backcountry site B39 (just outside our boundaries), this dreamy sunset perfectly reflects the quiet beauty and unforgettable moments that make a trip memorable long after it's over.

💧 Happy Canadian Rivers Day!

The rivers and waterways that flow through Restoule Provincial Park are part of a historic network that has connected people to the landscape for thousands of years.

Long before roads crossed the region, Indigenous Peoples travelled these waterways for trade, communication, and cultural exchange. Later, voyageurs and fur traders followed many of the same routes as part of Canada's fur trade era.

Today, these waterways continue to connect adventurers with the landscape. Restoule's backcountry canoe routes link with the French River system, allowing paddlers to travel through a network of lakes, rivers, and portages that can ultimately lead all the way to Georgian Bay. Along the way, you'll discover rugged shorelines, quiet campsites, abundant wildlife, and some of Ontario's most memorable paddling experiences.

Whether you're heading out for an afternoon paddle or planning a multi-day backcountry canoe trip, today is a great opportunity to celebrate the waterways that shape our ecosystems, our history, and our adventures.

It’s a warm June evening.
🐢 A female turtle climbs out of a wetland and begins an age-old journey taken by thousands of turtles before her. Guided by memory and instinct, she moves across the landscape in search of a site where her eggs will have the best chance of survival. 🥚

After travelling hundreds of metres, she finds it at last: an open area of loose, well-drained soil where the sun warms the ground throughout the day and few trees cast shade overhead. To her, it looks like the perfect nursery for the next generation. 🌞

But it isn’t a sandy shoreline or a natural clearing; it’s the shoulder of Highway 534. 🛣️

Yesterday evening, park staff observed several turtles along Highway 534 crossing the road, digging nests, and actively laying eggs. Along the same stretch, two turtles were also found dead.

What looks like ideal nesting habitat to a turtle can place her directly in the path of danger. As she searches for the right spot, she may stop suddenly, change direction, zig-zag, or travel along the roadside—crossing multiple times before finally beginning to dig her nest.

For many turtle species, reaching adulthood takes years—even decades. The loss of a single adult female can significantly impact local populations, making every successful nesting season vital.

If you're travelling to or from the park this season, please:

🚗 Slow down near wetlands, rivers, and lakes
👀 Watch road shoulders for turtles
⚠️ Expect sudden changes in direction
🛑 Give turtles space to cross safely
📏 Keep your distance and avoid disturbing nesting turtles

Our waterways are home to several turtle species, and every successful nesting season helps support future generations.

A few extra seconds of caution can mean the difference between a nest and a tragedy. Thank you for helping protect wildlife and making our roads safer for turtles. 🐢

🪰 Blackfly season is well underway at Restoule Provincial Park... but don't let that keep you away!

There's good news buzzing through the campground: the dragonflies have arrived! 🐉 😍
These aerial hunters have a very limited menu—bugs, bugs, and more bugs. With mosquitoes and blackflies among their favourite snacks, they're already hard at work to help keep the biting insect population in check.

If you happen to see a dragonfly during your visit, feel free to cheer it on; we could use all the help we can get!

While we wait for our winged pest-control team to munch their way through the blackfly buffet, there are plenty of ways to make your time in the park more enjoyable:
🦟 Bring insect repellent
🪰 Wear lightweight long sleeves and pants
🦟 Consider bug jackets or head nets for hikes
🪰 Use mosquito coils or other campsite deterrents where appropriate
🦟 Take advantage of breezy shorelines and open areas where bugs are often less active

A little preparation goes a long way, and the rewards are worth it; towering pines, sparkling lakes, scenic trails, campfires, and star-filled skies are all waiting for you!

Connecting us to nature, adventure, and unforgettable experiences, every step on a trail is a new opportunity to experience the amazing world around us.

At Restoule Provincial Park, we offer six unique trails to explore:

🥾 Grawbarger Trail – A quiet woodland walk perfect for a quick introduction to the park's natural environment.
🥾 Ranger's Point Trail – A short, family-friendly walk leading to scenic shoreline views and two picnic spots overlooking Restoule Lake.
🥾 River Trail – An easy forest loop following the winding Restoule River.
🥾 Angel's Point Trail – A moderate forest loop featuring beautiful lake views and access to an inner mountain bike trail.
🥾 Fire Tower Trail – A challenging hike that rewards visitors with some of the park's most spectacular panoramic views.
🥾 Gibs Trail – A rugged out-and-back trail that winds through mature forest to a secluded lakeshore destination.

Our trails have welcomed generations of hikers, families, birdwatchers, and adventurers, creating memories one step at a time. 📸 👣

🌱 Nature gives us so much—clean water, fresh air, wildlife habitat, and places to explore, reflect, and connect.

This World Environment Day, we're celebrating the natural spaces that support life in all its forms and the connections they foster: between people and nature, between communities, and across the past, present, and future. 🌲 💚

At Restoule Provincial Park, every campsite, trail, forest, and shoreline tells a story of connection:

🛶 The lakes and rivers have long connected people to the landscape, serving as travel routes for Indigenous Peoples for generations.
🥾 The trails connect visitors to breathtaking views, personal challenges, and a deeper appreciation of the natural world.
🔥 And the campfires become gathering places where stories are shared, friendships are strengthened, and people reconnect with the night sky.

From towering trees and vibrant wildflowers to the people and wildlife that call this place home, nature reminds us that we are all part of something larger.
