While heading out for a salmon fishing session or simply exploring the coastline by boat, encounters with wildlife can happen at any moment. Orcas may appear silently beside the vessel, while humpback whales sometimes surface unexpectedly in the distance.

In these waters, nothing is scheduled or guaranteed. Wildlife moves freely, on its own rhythm and that’s what makes every encounter so special.

At Fawn Bluff, time on the water is always approached with respect for the animals, the ocean, and the traditional territory of the Homalco First Nation.

Beneath the surface of Bute Inlet, the waters are teeming with life, including kelp crabs, a species commonly found along the wild coast of British Columbia. With their spider-like legs and vibrant orange tones, these coastal crabs are a small but beautiful part of the rich marine ecosystem surrounding Fawn Bluff.

Here, our team is always ready to head out on the water; whether for salmon fishing, checking prawn traps, or pulling up crab pots while exploring the untouched coastline of the Great Bear Rainforest.

In British Columbia, spring sounds like a vibrant celebration of nature. All the wilderness slowly wakes up and comes back to life after a long winter either hibernating and surviving.

This is the time of the year where black bears and grizzlys bears will appear again, often scruffy and skinny looking, sometimes walking along the cliffs with brand new cubs. They will be looking for food after a long sleep.

The black bears and their gentle nature will be seen walking the shoreline, looking for food in the inter tidal zones : Barnacles, mussels, crabs, all of them make a wonderful meal for the hungry bear family.

The grizzlys walk the trails, not hiding their mystic and gigantic power, looking for their first big meal of the year and reminding us how small we are in this ecosystem.

They are all waiting for one thing : the salmon migration up in the rivers, allowing them to feed their hunger for months.

Being at Fawn Bluff in the spring, is witnessing the unbreakable rythm of life following its course. From quiet and snowy forest, to treacherous northern winds, to sunny, vibrant sceneries where wildlife and human activity come together in harmony and mutual respect. This is a place where nature is stronger, bigger, and where being human feels a little less overwhelming than the rest of the world.
