So, this just happened!! The “SOLD” sign is up and it’s official! We will be out of this home by noon on June 30. We have loved living here, but we are excited to be moving to a beautiful brand new apartment in Saskatoon on July 21. Between those dates we will put our belongings in storage and stay with family / friends. Sadly, we must also announce that Academy Bed & Breakfast will not be reopening, as this house will go back to being a wonderful family home.

I am starting to get calls (even though our website and Facebook say we are closed) from people wanting to book for this summer and fall.

This is what I told the latest person who contacted me:

“Hi! I am sorry to tell you that we have not reopened the B & B since we closed for covid. In fact we have the home (and / or bed and breakfast) on the market.

Stew has retired and we are planning to do a major downsize to an apartment probably in Saskatoon.

We would have loved to have you stay again, but we will hopefully have moved by then.

With your permission, I'll make a note for myself that if it sells as a B & B, I will tell the buyers that you are interested for those dates. Would that be ok?

Either way I appreciate your text and kind words. Owning the B & B was an amazing experience because of guests like you!!”

The person replied to say that they had been afraid we might not be available. They gave me permission to pass on their names, thanked me for “the 3 wonderful stays” and hoped we would enjoy retirement “as you've both worked hard towards it.”

As I was saying to our real estate agent, If anyone wants to restart the B and B they would have my support in doing so - a fully functioning website - which is actually worth a substantial amount of money and time (please note that the domain name expires in a few days, on April 26) my breakfast recipes (see example below), not to mention the absolutely invaluable “only positive” reviews, plus the contact possibilities with previous guests etc.

P. S. Stew and I went “out” for breakfast this morning while our house was being shown. The breakfast shown below (typical for what I served our B & B guests) is nothing like what we ate. Even though the food we had was delicious, there was not a single scrap of anything that resembled a fruit or vegetable on our plates. No one would have to serve what we served, but we were known for our breakfasts and I would love to help someone continue the tradition.

Stewart and I are still hoping for the perfect purchaser for our property! For the right price, we would include almost everything (INCLUDING breakfast recipes!) that you will need to get the B & B up and running again and I would be happy to help with the transition! PLEASE NOTE: I will not be renewing the domain name for www.academybandb.ca at the end of this month, so time is running out on that possibility! Who do you know who might be interested!? Please share. Thanks!
