Marshlands Inn

Marshlands Inn The Marshlands Inn is a New Brunswick Country Inn and one of Canada's best known country inns. This pre-confederation home, operating as an inn for over 60

Marshlands Inn was built in 1854 as a wedding gift by the Honourable William Crane for his daughter who became Ruth Crane Cogswell. Crane was a man of some wealth being a merchant and ship builder and, so it is said, financier of Samuel Cunard's first steamship. While redecorating the parlours we uncovered some writing on the exposed plaster dating to 1858 and June, 1867. We didn't have the heart

to paint over it. So we left it there for you to view as it was written so long ago. We are told that our front lawns are graced by the oldest gray birch trees in Atlantic Canada. There is a rhododendron in the front flower bed that dates to the turn of the century. Eight acres of land surrounding the inn provide a private refuge for pheasants, ducks (Ovid and Corina are a pair of mallards), muskrats and skunks. Relax in the gardens and enjoy watching the wildlife.
