StoryWalk Has Arrived in St. Stephen!

Residents and visitors can now enjoy a story while exploring the Coastal Link Trail!

StoryWalk runs along the section of trail from behind RBC to behind the Border Café. Follow the numbered reading posts to experience a children’s book one page at a time while enjoying some fresh air and physical activity.

A special thank-you goes to Elva Hatt, former librarian with the St. Croix Public Library, for bringing this wonderful idea to the attention of Municipal District of St. Stephen staff. We were delighted to support the project by installing the poles along the trail.

Gather the family, take a walk and enjoy a reading adventure together!

On September 30, residents from across Charlotte County are encouraged to be together in Saint Andrews to honour Residential School Survivors, their families and communities, and to remember the children who never returned home.

Please join the solemn walk at Indian Point beginning at 12:00 noon, followed by drumming and smudging. Wear orange as we listen, learn and reflect together in the spirit of truth, healing and reconciliation.

Located just outside Calais, Maine. A wonderful place to walk and bicycle 3-seasons of the year and snowshoe & cross country ski in the winter.

We promised you information about the NEW TRAILS and here it is - just in time for the best trail weather!

If you look closely at the map, you'll see a brand new hiking trail - the "Bear Den" trail. This 3-mile trail connects four of our existing Baring wilderness area trails from Bearce Lake Trail on the southern end up to the Mullen Trail on the northern end. This project was started a year ago and was completed using only hand tools (it is a wilderness area after all!) by the Northwoods trail crew and our very own Youth Conservation Corps.

This new trail will allow visitors to hike a LOOP through the wilderness, instead of always having to go out and back. Three new loops have been created with this connecting trail. Two are approximately 4 miles each and a longer 8-mile loop goes around the outside. The new Bear Den Trail also provides better access to Conic Lake, taking visitors along the lakeshore and even across the century-old hand-laid stone dam! (you did know Conic Lake had a stone dam, didn't you?).

Another change we made was to rename the entire length of the former Conic trail to the "Mullen" Trail. The old trail name created a lot of confusion with the "Conic Lake" trail, and online trail mapping software already shows the whole length as "Mullen," so we changed our maps to simplify things and reduce confusion.

Look for blue trail blazes and new signage along the Bear Den Trail and keep an eye out for bears and other wildlife as you hike this moderately strenuous but ever-so scenic new trail! And if you see one of our YCC crew members around the area, be sure to thank them for all their hard work this summer!
