Right in the heart of downtown Sault Ste. Marie stands the iconic eagle sculpture 🦅

This piece was created as a tribute to the American bald eagle, a bird that thrives along the St. Marys River and throughout Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Eagles are a powerful symbol of strength and freedom, and they are truly part of the identity of Sault Ste. Marie.

The sculpture was designed and built by Deborah Silver & Co. as part of a downtown beautification effort. The goal was to create meaningful public art that reflects the natural beauty of the area. Made from steel with hand-formed metal details, the nest and tree elements were carefully crafted to be viewed from every angle and to withstand the UP weather.

If you’re visiting the Soo, be sure to stop downtown and see it up close.
