My Great Aunt Margaret Clay—Peggy, whom we affectionately nicknamed “Piggy” —travelled around the world in 1952 and bought two dolls in every country she visited to bring home to my sister, Cathy Waet, and me, who were just infants at the time. Her father purchased the Cabin Club property in either 1904 or 1906—we’re not entirely sure of the exact year.
Every Christmas, I set the dolls out just as our mother once displayed them on our mantel. Though a few are now missing an arm or a leg, they continue to bring back cherished memories of my great-aunts Peggy, Mernie, and Kay each time I unpack them. I remember this library; our Great aunt Margaret Clay was the Victoria Librarian and would send them books.

Family Owned since 1904, then known as MaHeMaKaJa named after the children Margaret, Helen, Mary, Kay & Jack Clay.
The original cabin burned down in the mid-'40s and the pan-a-bode cabin was built by Helen Ellis and her sisters Mary and Margaret Clay in its place shortly after.
LOCATED: at Shawnigan Lake, BC On Vancouver Island this pan-abode log cabin is nestled in a natural wooded setting, only 28 miles and a 30 to 40-minute drive north of Victoria. It is available for rent by the week (7 nights) during July and August or a minimum of 3 nights in May, June and September.
This waterfront cabin has everything you need for a fun-filled family holiday or a quiet romantic getaway for two. We offer everything from restful and relaxing ... to a fun-filled destination for families.
Your well-behaved pets are always welcome! With a wraparound gated deck, you can keep a watchful eye on them. We are situated well off the main road so taking them for a short walk in the woods is available.
During the heat of the day step out onto the large patio deck to lounge in the sun or shady side. Enjoy the boats passing by.
The deck steps lead down to a new wood patio with your own private wharf.
In the evenings sit by the cozy gas fire pit or inside wood-burning fireplace.
Enjoy the many lake activities; sunbathing, swimming, water skiing, tubing, sailing or fishing to your heart's content. Although a boat is not provided, a local marina provides rentals for small fishing boats; ski-do's and canoes. Worms are available at Mason's local store.
