A month ago I put a post about my art and felt like a lost something within me. It's like I lost that spark and thinking because the markets were harder to sell that was the reason but last weekend we went to get a drum sander for the shop to help me sand parts easier. Honestly I got a better gift, we arrived to this little workshop of a well known carver that I wish that I could've met, I was greeted by his wife and daughter sharing me his story and creations. You should've seen his AMAZING work he did, his birds were so realistic and detailed. His wife shared to me that he use to give comfort birds like the picture below to people that were going through a difficult time. I loved the idea so much and wanted to learn how to make them, so I took pictures of one he had created and make a template the best I could do. I tried making one yesterday and this is how it came out. I'm still not really happy with it and I see some places of improvement. I loved how his felt in the hand and I know I can't be exact like him but I do want to give these out and hope that I can make them more comfortable in the hand. That day when we got the sander I was excited, happy and it ignated that light of creation inside of me. The same day Pierre bought me a carving book and I started doing my research in carving, from the different knives to sharpening and carving itself. The next day I told Pierre I should've got some carving tools of his and he said well you can always message her back and see if she still have them. So I did and got so many kind, I am honored to have tools from this carving artist and I hope I can make him proud from heaven. The picture of the comfort bird was not carved but cut on the bandsaw and shaped with the drum sander. Carving will be next on my to do list and this will be done more at the camper to keep my mind busy. Again I'm so grateful to have met them, seeing his workshop and creations because I have found something that I can give back to people.
