If you are considering doing a specific whale watching tour while visiting our area, I highly recommend choosing these folks, for too many reasons to list here… simply put they are the best! 💜

Ethical whale watching is becoming a bit of a buzz word and we completely agree that all persons observing wildlife should be ethical in how they go about it whether from land, air or sea.

We have been stewards of the environment and wildlife for over 50 years and are eternally grateful for being able to share our love and knowledge with people from around the world.

We believe it is from sharing this beautiful corner of the world with others is how a community was able to protect it.

It is our hope that ethical whale watching isn't just a buzz word but done in earnest.

As we begin a new year I invite you to find what nourishes your inner world and connection to beauty and nature, so that you can rest and renew, and then share the love that is so badly needed in a world consumed by confusion. 💜

Yesterday we witnessed the death of I76 in the Johnstone Strait. He was a 28 year-old male, belonging to the I4s, who is very well known to us. While our sorrow runs deep, we are uplifted by the community around us who gave space and respect to this family in their last moments together.

Please read our account of the day, written by Helena Symonds.

ESCAPE INTO NATURE.

The creation-dream of Paddlers Inn began 46 years ago, to invite people from around the world to experience the vibrant beauty of British Columbia’s wilderness coastline, with a safe, intimate, and sensitive approach.

During this crazy and disruptive time for humankind, mother nature is carrying on as usual creating inviting day- breaks and day-ends, filled in between with potential for connection, to self, family, and friends, and to awakening in the cradle of nature, remembering that we are a part of all this beauty! The ability to build our homes, feed our families, and manifest our dreams is all rooted in the abundance of nature, and her generosity, which continues to surround us, especially here in the Broughton Archipelago.
With our “stand alone” cabins nestled into the quiet forested shoreline of the Broughton Archipelago, Paddlers Inn is a perfect destination for couples, families, and small groups that are looking for a wilderness holiday that is cozy and safe, while still being fully immersed in the rhythms of tide and sea. Release your imagination into the vast star bright skies that invite and whisper of a gentle nights sleep, followed by the pure joy of breathing fresh forest air with an accent of sea salt, all day long with the ones you love. Explore untrammeled rainforest trails, or meander along secluded shorelines by kayak, based from our homestead and your cabins doorstep into nature.
We still have openings for this summer and are welcoming you to e-mail us at [email protected] or call 250-230-0088 to make arrangements for your ESCAPE INTO NATURE!

BROUGHTON SPLENDOR

Awaiting participation,

The day unfolds.

From darkened quiet stillness,

To soft daybreak awakenings.

As I clip salal encroached pathways,

A lone black bear meanders,

Across a low tidal expanse,

Of intertidal smorgasbord.

Turning rocks in search,

Of taste delights unarmored.

Our afternoon family walk,

Across our now well-trodden forest path,

Solidifies our footprints left.

Finding first-growth cedar’s,

Left alone and standing,

And then following the forest stream downward,

We descend to find,

A glistening ocean,

Celebrating the suns departure,

Dancing at obtuse angles.

Being blessed with food prepared,

And left remaining,

From catered guests now departed,

We sit together,

At ocean’s edge,

To dine.

Before us the sea,

Parting and falling,

As humpback whales soar upward,

Dinning on abundance,

As pilchard speckle,

Sea-top reflections,

Of the days colorful end.

Om,

For the jewel,

Of nature. May 10, 2005
