NimbleFingers Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Workshop

NimbleFingers Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Workshop Come join us for this amazing acoustic Music Workshop and Festival in Sorrento, BC, Canada

Nimblefingers, BC's Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Workshop: Spend an inspiring, challenging, and joyous week with others who share your passion for bluegrass and old time music! Each August we're proud to host what used to be called the BC Bluegrass Workshop in Sorrento, BC—about 5 hours from Vancouver by car between Kamloops and Salmon Arm. Now in our 26th year, we provide a friendly and noncompet

itive environment for everyone from beginners to advanced players, with ample opportunity for group learning, electives, organized jam sessions, and many other spontaneous activities. There are student concerts, band scrambles, instructor concerts, campground picking sessions, and old time dances. We hear from many of our regulars that NimbleFingers is what they look forward to the most each year. We offer two separate weeks of workshops, and many of our attendees stay for both! Our home for the workshops, Sorrento Centre, is a beautiful retreat by the shores of Shuswap Lake operated by the Anglican Church of Canada. The site contains two lodges, cabins, and lots of campsites; other facilities include a covered amphitheatre, a private beach, and beautiful trails. The kitchen specializes in fine home-style cooking, now using fresh ingredients from their own organic garden! Sorrento Centre is also the location of our annual NimbleFingers Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Festival.

Guess who's performing at Festival this July! We are thrilled to welcome back these two wonderful artists!

Grammy Award-winning musician John Reischman has been a foundational mandolinist, composer, bandleader, and musical educator in bluegrass and North American roots and folk music since emerging from the vibrant “new acoustic” bluegrass music scene of the Bay Area in the 1980s. A member of the groundbreaking Tony Rice Unit, Reischman’s mastery of bluegrass, old-time, swing, and multiple Latin American musical styles, coupled with an old master’s sense of tone, taste, and musicality, has brought him a global reputation as one of the finest mandolinists of his era.

Golden Shoals is a fiddle and guitar duo with a "rousing old-time-style music that’s fueled by acerbic modern-day wit” (-No Depression Magazine). Often switching instruments between fiddle, two guitars, and banjo, their original songs have been compared to Gillian Welch, with the added edge of instrumental prowess informed by energetic old time and bluegrass recordings.

𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚 𝐛𝐢𝐭 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬?

Now's your chance to come try a little with us in a fun, welcoming space.

Maybe you’ve caught yourself tapping your foot at a festival… lingering a little too long at the outside of a jam… wondering how everyone somehow knows when to jump in… or thinking, “I’d love to try this someday.”

Maybe you already play music but have never explored bluegrass. Maybe you secretly want to learn to jam with others. Or maybe you’re just curious what all the banjo, fiddle, harmony-singing fuss is about.

Bluegrass 101 is designed for anyone wanting to build confidence, expand their jamming skills, and explore the foundations and history of bluegrass music in a welcoming, supportive environment—regardless of musical background or experience level. This class is open to all instruments & singers.

Together, you’ll work on the building blocks of bluegrass: backup, lead playing, vocals, harmony singing, timing, feel, and how all the pieces fit together to create that unmistakable bluegrass sound. Through practice, repetition, and lots of encouragement, you’ll gain the confidence to sing, play, and join in at jams and music gatherings of all kinds.

Spots are still available for Week 1—come learn, play, laugh, jam, and discover why so many people fall in love with this music.
