It's been a great 6 seasons (aside from Covid) but the time has come to close our doors. We are grateful to have been able to meet and know so many wonderful guests over these years.

Wishing everyone a merry and safe Christmas and a wonderful new year in 2023. We have so much to be thankful for!

Saturday Oct 15th, 2022 started out normal. After feeding breakfast to our departing guests we cleaned and reset the rooms for the arriving guests who were named Louise Alcott, Joseph March and wife and Joseph’s sister Elizabeth March. One of our 4 adult daughters, Beth, arrived around 1:15 for a visit and was working on her phone (actually she was video-taping). Then around 2pm the doorbell rang. It must have been our guests arriving early. Becky answered the door while Beth and I watched. When she answered the door our other 3 adult daughters were standing there. For a few seconds Becky was confused and speechless (that doesn’t happen very often) Finally she said “Miriam??” then shifting her gaze said “Rachael??” and finally “Sarah!!” (Sarah had travelled all the way from Saskatchewan for the event). When Becky asked “What are you doing here?” They said “We’re going with you to Little Women tomorrow” Still confused Becky said “Where are you staying?” When the girls said “Here in your house” Becky was still confused and said “But you can’t because we have guests coming.” We explained that the names on the bookings were phony (and from the book) and she still had trouble grasping it all but finally understood that she’d been pranked Anyway the 4 girls stayed over that night for some great girl time with their mom and then attended the play on the Sunday afternoon. It was excellent!

The big project in 2022 was the Fire Escape which badly need painting as well as a few cosmetic repairs. It turned out pretty well and is now available in case of emergency or if someone wants to skip out without paying.😉

Looks like the "moonflower" video didn't post so trying it again.

2022 saw us back in business. It was a bit slow in May and June but by the time summer came we were fully booked and almost back to the same numbers as 2019. Through it all Becky continued to maintain her English garden. Going to try to attach a real time video of our moonflower opening. Hopefully it will work. Actually it’s an Evening Primrose but we call it a moonflower since it opens right before your eyes after the sun goes down and withers by morning.

Our next big project was a to redo the porch. The blue paint had begun to peel and so we looked around for some ideas. It was a messy job with sand-blasting and hand-grinding but thanks to Ontario Pool Coatings in London and some colour advice from our new friend Sabrina the new porch looked sensational.

In 2021 we were finally able to have some business again as the Festival returned to an outdoor tent-based format due to Covid. Despite the challenges we were able to receive over 150 guests. It felt good to have guests back in our home again.

In 2020 we took advantage of the Covid down-time to do repairs around the house. The next big job was the barn roof. We weren’t able to find a timely contractor for a good price so we did it ourselves. The slope on the roof was a bit of a challenge but Becky designed a contraption (which we named The BEC-onator) and we were able to complete the job. In addition to doing the outside of the barn we cleaned it out inside and turned the upper barn into a grandchild paradise with A/C, a pool table, large TV with Wi-fi, table hockey and table tennis and a play kitchen for the little ones. The bottom of the barn fulfilled Stu’s dream of having a workshop as well as some storage.

A stinker of a year! Maybe discovering a skunk living under the deck was a sign of what was to come in 2020. After dealing with the skunk, we settled down for what looked to be a banner year. Our calendar was 50% full by Mid-March but then came the announcement of Covid closures. With a couple of weeks our paper calendar was a patchwork of white-out marks (Investing in White-out might have been a smart move)
