Tweedsmuir Park Lodge

Tweedsmuir Park Lodge Luxury lodge offering wilderness retreats and grizzly bear viewing in Bella Coola Valley, British Columbia. NEW! We are now Climate Positive (i.e. Join us.

we offset more than we emit)! The historic Tweedsmuir Park Lodge, set on 60 acres of private land within the vast wilderness of British Columbia's largest protected park, is the ideal setting for your wilderness adventures and experiences. Originally built in 1929 as a hunting and fishing lodge, today the lodge accommodates those seeking out a more eco-friendly adventure as well as a relaxing refu

ge from the pressures of modern life. The surrounding environment is stunning. Rising above the valley floor are the majestic Coast Mountains, to the west is the largest fjord system in the Americas, and to the east the high Chilcotin Plateau. It is a bio-diverse and spectacular wilderness, home to the totemic wildlife of the Great Bear Rainforest. Our lodge borders the Atnarko River and in the fall the Grizzly Bears come down to feast on the spawning Salmon. We are smack in the middle of what is one of the healthiest bear habitats in the world and often the bears can be seen wandering past the lodge. Sometimes we even catch them napping on the lawn. All accommodation at the Tweedsmuir Park Lodge is in one of ten private chalets with the main lodge providing lots of common space for dining, games, and socializing. It is perfect set up for family reunions and corporate groups, which can book the full premises, yet intimate enough that the individual traveler and smaller groups will feel at home. The focus throughout is on great service, and an authentic, welcoming Canadian hospitality. Although the lodge and the entire Bella Coola Valley are geographically remote, it is nevertheless easy and convenient to make your way to our door step. At Tweedsmuir Park Lodge we are lucky to live in a stunning and pristine environment and have a wonderful community supporting us. We are committed to keeping it that way and ask all our guests to participate in our environmental stewardship initiatives to ensure that Bella Coola continues to be the most extraordinary place in the world to enjoy the great outdoors. Your expectations will be surpassed!!

Summer in the Bella Coola Valley is something truly special. 🌲

The season brings long days spent exploring the valley, time on the water, peaceful moments surrounded by nature, and unforgettable wildlife encounters.

But it’s also the simple moments that make a stay memorable. Sharing a meal at the lodge, getting to know our guides and staff, meeting fellow guests, or simply taking in the mountains from the comfort of the lodge.

Here are a few moments from summer at Tweedsmuir that we’ve loved sharing with our guests.

Sharing the wilderness with bears begins with awareness, preparation, and respect. 🐻

At the lodge, guest safety and bear welfare are at the heart of every wildlife experience. Our guided adventures are led by CBVA-certified guides and follow BC Parks approved protocols to help ensure safe and responsible bear viewing.

Whether it's making noise while hiking, staying alert for signs of bear activity, respecting wildlife from a distance, or following local guidance, understanding these simple principles helps protect both people and bears.

Sometimes the best way to spend a few days is to slow things down a little. 🏔️

No packed schedule, no rushing from one thing to the next. Just time to explore the mountains, spend your days outside, spot some wildlife, and enjoy being in the Great Bear Rainforest.

No two days in the Bella Coola Valley are ever the same, and that is part of what makes it so memorable. 💚

With a wide range of experiences to choose from, each guest can move through the valley at their own pace and in their own style. Some spend their days gently drifting along glacier-fed rivers, others take on the low ropes course, and many choose to explore forest trails through the Great Bear Rainforest, taking in the scale and quiet beauty of the landscape.

There is a sense of freedom here that allows every stay to feel different, whether it is filled with activity or moments of stillness in nature.

At the end of the day, return to the lodge to unwind and reset. Relax in the hot tub, warm up in the cedar sauna, or settle in for a quiet evening by the campfire as the valley slows down around you. It's a welcoming and comfortable way to experience the West Coast at its finest.

A few days at Tweedsmuir has a way of slowing things down.

Mornings start a little slower, days are spent outside exploring the valley, and there’s plenty of time to enjoy a good meal and take in the scenery. No packed schedule required, just time to enjoy being here.

Autumn is one of the most fascinating times to visit the Bella Coola Valley.

As grizzly bears prepare for winter hibernation, they're active along the Atnarko River and throughout the Great Bear Rainforest. Our Grizzly Bear Ecology Walking Tour offers the opportunity to learn more about these incredible animals in their natural environment.

Along the way, you'll discover how to identify signs of bear activity, including claw marks, day beds, s**t, and tufts of fur on rub trees. You'll also learn about grizzly behaviour and how people can safely coexist with them.

If you're planning a visit between August and October, this experience is a memorable way to connect with the wildlife and landscapes that make this region so special: https://www.tweedsmuirparklodge.com/activities/grizzly-bear-ecology-walking-tour/?utm_source=social&utm_medium=Facebook&utm_campaign=dra-walking-tour

If you've ever considered visiting the Bella Coola Valley in the fall, October is one of the most rewarding times to experience it. 🍂

The valley comes alive with vibrant autumn colours, the surrounding mountain peaks often receive their first dusting of snow, and grizzly bears can still be seen preparing for hibernation before the season comes to a close.

With fewer visitors and a quieter experience on the river, October offers the chance to enjoy the beauty of the Great Bear Rainforest at a slower pace. Whether you're drawn by the incredible wildlife, the changing landscapes, or the peaceful atmosphere, it's a memorable time to visit.
