Dec 2017
Dear family and friends
Well this year time has gotten away from me and I no longer have time to mail out Christmas cards as I usually do, something I love doing. Truthfully I stayed to long with a needle in my hand (that would be the sewing kind) and the days have gone past when Canada Post was an option. So...I will email our greetings in a short letter.
It is perfect timing to be writing this letter as it is snowing hard without a breath of wind making it a lovely winter wonderland out there. Harvey is off passing a puck or two around the ice with a couple of old guys at the local rink so here I sit filling you in. We are happy and mostly healthy here in the South Okanagan. This year has been quite a year, starting with our granddaughter Mairin returning to Summerland bringing with her all the joy, love, happiness and fun that a teenage girl around can bring. She lives with her dad so joy, love, happiness and fun is basically what we as grandparents get and that is the best, welcome home Mairin! We had lots of snow at the beginning of the year so we were able to bring winter fun to loads of folks doing several sleigh rides. Otherwise we kept the cold at bay with choir, bible study, walking club, wine tasting group, games night, wing night at the pub, and coffee with friends and of course we kept up with “Longmire” and “Hell on Wheels” then we even found time to re-watch the whole “Breaking Bad” series. That one’s your fault Tricia! Of course once the Jays were back all that changes, we even got Carter interested and now he is our in-house stats expert. We were able to travel east just for visits, (no renos this time), which upon our return home hurled us head long into spring work and choir concerts (the best one yet) which brought visits from family and friends.
Along with spring also came very high water at the lake. It seemed weird to see such flooding in a region that is considered desert, this was very hard on the families with homes along the lake, as we counted our blessings being higher up here in our valley , and everyone was wondering how our tourist season would be affected. Despite all that water tourist season started right on time and with the long week end in May came the first of the 2017 B&B guests allowing us only a couple of days off while we attended Parker’s grad at the end of June then again at the beginning of September for Layna and Nicks wedding. The summer whizzed by in a flash. Though we had such flooding in the spring BC had its worst forest fire season in a very long time. Even with all that the farming and gardening were great this year and the hay sales were good, we ate and canned peaches from our own peach tree, and we are still eating tomatoes and potatoes from the garden, God is good!! Around mid October the B&B empties and things slow down. Choir starts up again and I get into sewing Christmas stockings. Well now it’s December and the choir has finished for this year with its Christmas concert and party all done and I have finished 6 Christmas stockings and 4 Christmas cushions.
May God Bless you all and keep you and yours safe and happy.
Love Eleanor and Harvey,
Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to men, Luke 2:14
