Fall has arrived in Clayoquot Sound, and with it, the end of the 2026 season.
 
Twenty-five canvas tents, with ocean, forest and mountains on the doorstep, and a valley where black bears, otters, sea lions and bald eagles move freely through it all.
 
Riding out through old growth forest in the morning, paddling the inlet in the afternoon, watching the estuary fill and empty while the light moves down the mountains - it’s a season we’ll never forget.
 
Now it’s time to pack up camp, as the forest and marine waterways get ready for the Vancouver Island winter.
 
Thank you for being here this year. We’ll see you on the Bedwell again in spring.

The 2026 MICHELIN Guide Key Hotels have been revealed globally, and Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge has proudly retained its prestigious Three Keys.

Over three nights in early September, the Uchi kitchens returned to Clayoquot for its popular Japanese-style culinary weekend, The Wild Table.

Days were spent horseback riding, hiking forest trails and joining a hands on sushi making demonstration with seafood caught in the sound that morming. Evenings went to the table: Friday for the Uchi classics - think local oysters, salmon with ponzu; Saturday for a 10-course menu written specially for that weekend - with hama chili yellowtail, scallop crudo with umeboshi and bluefin tuna negitoro - all served family-style.

This is what August looks like on Clayoquot Sound. Days measured in tides rather than hours - out on the water at first light, heading into the old-growth forest by afternoon, and back to the ocean inlet as it goes still at dusk. The wilds of Vancouver Island keep good company at this time of year.
