Best Western Plus Tin Wis Resort The Best Western Tin Wis Resort Support Indigenous and connect to Tla-o-qui-aht Culture at the Tin Wis.
(1002)

Tin Wis is within Tla-o-qui-aht Ḥaaḥuułi and the Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks, and like the ancestral village site that existed here for tens of thousands of years, the 85-room beachfront hotel stands facing one of the oldest highways on earth – the ocean. Connected to this deeply storied place, Tin Wis Best Western Resort’s own evolution relies upon the resilience of the Tla-o-qui-aht people, ancestral land and identity, and the perseverance of Cultural Lifeways as well as the Indigenous laws which protect biological diversity. Tinuwis means calm waters, and, like much of the Tla-o-qui-aht language the name is more verb than noun, expressing how the waves calm as they enter this protected cove which continues to be a haven for birds, paddlers, guests and the local community. Tin Wis Resort invites ethical travelers to connect to Tla-o-qui-aht culture, support Nation building efforts and Tribal Parks Allies, and experience the effect of the area's calming waters.

As the days grow cooler and the West Coast settles into its stormier season, there's no better time to warm up by the Pacific. 🌊

Our onsite partner, Tuff City Saunas, offers a beachfront Nordic spa experience just steps from Tin Wis Resort, where the warmth of a wood-fired sauna meets the refreshing waters of the Pacific Ocean.

Settle into the heat, listen to the waves rolling onto tinwis Beach, and embrace the contrast of a warm sauna session followed by a cool ocean plunge. Whether you're unwinding after a day outside or simply taking some time to slow down, it's a beautiful way to experience the changing seasons on the coast.

Staying with us at Tin Wis? Don't forget to use the discount code on your Tin Wis Bonus Card to receive 10% off your sauna session!

It’s quickly becoming one of our favourite times of year to be on tinwis beach.

As fall settles in and winter approaches, the usually “calm waters” of tinwis begin to shift. With the right swell, the beach can transform into a surfable break, bringing a whole different energy to the shoreline.

Keep an eye on the surf report and you might just catch one of those days when you can grab your board, step out of your room, and head straight for the waves.

We’ll see you out there. 🏄🌊

When this is the backdrop, getting out for the evening feels a little easier.

When the tide is out, the wide stretch of compact sand on tinwis makes for a beautiful place to get moving. Head out for a run or walk as the sun begins to dip toward the horizon, the sky shifts into golden hour, and the evening light reflects across the wet sand.

Whether it’s part of your regular workout or simply an excuse to get outside and move after a day in Tofino, sometimes the best place to exercise is right outside your room.

Lace up, head down to tinwis, and let the sunset set the pace.

Today, September 30, Tin Wis Resort recognizes Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We honour Residential School Survivors and their families, remember the children who never returned home, and recognize the generations of Indigenous families and communities who continue to carry the impacts of the residential school system.

Here at Tin Wis, "Tiičswina — We Survived!", carved by Joe Martin, Joe David, and organized by Nora Martin, stands on the lawn as a powerful reminder of this history. The č̓iin̓uł (totem pole) was raised in 2013 for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission commemoration and honours the children who attended residential schools and those who never returned home.

Truth and reconciliation is not limited to September 30. It is a call for continued learning, reflection, action, and a commitment to building right relationships with Indigenous Peoples each and every day.

Five actions that can help each of us continue that work throughout the year:

- Learn your settler history.

- Learn about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action.

- Learn whose territory you live in and whose territory you are visiting.

- Go beyond land acknowledgement by learning about and supporting the ongoing stewardship, rights, and responsibilities of Indigenous Peoples.

- Support Indigenous revitalization, from learning and using Indigenous place names to supporting Indigenous-led programs, businesses, initiatives, and organizations.

These actions are not something to consider only today. They are opportunities to continue listening, learning, and taking meaningful action toward reconciliation and right relationship throughout the year.

Every Child Matters. 🧡

On September 30, we invite our guests, community members, and neighbours to join ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ in gathering for Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The day will begin at the Village Green at 9:30 a.m., where Orange Shirts will be available, followed by the Survivors March to Tin Wis at 10:00 a.m.

From there, the day will continue at Tin Wis Resort and Tsawaak RV Resort & Campground with opportunities to gather, share a meal, listen, learn, and spend time together.

There will be a carving presentation with ƛ̓iḥpik Hjalmer Wenstob, storytelling with kaamatḥ Levi Martin, a ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ Makers Market, weaving tutorials, song sharing, a community BBQ, Culture Night, and more.

On September 30, and every day, we remember the children who never came home, honour Survivors and their families, and recognize the lasting impacts of residential schools. It is also a time to listen, learn, reflect, and come together in respect and community.

For those visiting Tin Wis and Tsawaak, we welcome you to join us with respect and an openness to listen and learn alongside ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ.

Every Child Matters. 🧡

Our latest Tin Wis listicle is live, and this month we’re sharing five actions we can take toward right relationship with Indigenous Peoples.

Written by Erin Linn McMullan and inspired by the work of ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ ƛ̓iiʔiik (Tsimka Martin) and Jeanette Sheehy, “5 Actions Towards Right Relationship with Indigenous Peoples” offers meaningful ways to turn learning and acknowledgement into continued action.

From learning your own settler history and reading the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action, to learning whose territory you live in and visit, going beyond land acknowledgement, and supporting Indigenous revitalization, each action offers a place to begin, or continue, the work.

As September 30 and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation approach, we invite you to take some time to reflect, learn, and consider the actions you can carry forward beyond one day. The listicle also shares ways to support Indigenous-led initiatives, including ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ Tribal Parks, mułaa Rising Tide Surf Society, and Indigenous-owned and Tribal Parks Allied businesses.
