Cuba Fuel Update

The Cuban government has officially notified international airlines that the country will face a critical lack of aviation fuel starting Monday, February 9, and Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

This shortage is part of a severe national energy crisis.
Cuba issued an official notice (NOTAM) stating that aviation fuel (Jet A-1) would not be guaranteed at major airports, including Havana, starting early this week.

The notice is currently expected to remain in effect through early March 2026, though this could change based on new shipments.

Most international airlines (such as American Airlines, Copa, and WestJet) are being forced to make "technical stops" in nearby countries to refuel because they cannot get fuel once they land in Cuba.

Some airlines have already begun cancelling flights. Air Canada, for example, has reportedly cancelled several weeks of trips to Cuba and others will follow.

AVOID TRAVEL TO AND FROM MINNESOTA AIRPORT (MSP)

ICE will be verifying documents of both employees and customers for departures and arrivals from both terminals. ICE will be present inside jet bridges as well.

Full transcript of an email received by a staff member at a certain airline:

"Hi All,

For your information, and in the event of questions from our customers, for the next 3 weeks ICE (the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement) will be present at MSP airport. They will be verifying documents of both employees and customers for departures and arrivals from both terminals. ICE will be present inside jet bridges as well.

Note this is not something we are communicating to the customers in advance (other European carriers are also not sending out preflight emails about this), however in the event of customer questions, you have been informed. The flight crew has also been informed about the additional presence at the airport.

We do not expect disruptions from this event, however in case a customer would miss the flight or a connecting flight due to additional checks from ICE agents, the airline is not liable for claims and compensation."

Travel alert: Caribbean flights canceled as airspace closed near Venezuela

Dozens of flights have been canceled to Caribbean destinations as the FAA closed airspace after the U.S. military ILLEGALLY ATTACKED Venezuela WITHOUT CONGRESSIONAL APPROVAL.

American Airlines says the airspace shutdown is affecting flights to 19 destinations in the Eastern Caribbean, including Aruba; Curaçao; San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands; and Trinidad and Tobago.

Avoid all travel: Safety and security – United States of America launches military strikes in Venezuela.

President Donald Trump announced the United States Military has illegally 'captured and removed' sitting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.

The United States of Americas illegal actions against Venezuela signals an end of respect for international law and has given international rivals an excuse to do the same thing.

China could now point to the US’s actions as justification for it to do the same with Taiwan and is justifying what Russia is doing to Ukraine.

Survive a Hurricane by sheltering in place, if you are unable to evacuate.

Fill the bathtub and sink with water to flush toilets and for drinking if the water is potable.

If you have duct tape, use it to make an 'X' on any glass windows, to prevent them from shattering inwards.

Close drapes and barricade windows using box springs, dressers, sofas and chairs.

Take passports, medications, money, wallets, snacks and water bottles then place everything in 1 backpack as a bug out bag.

Wear the clothes you need to stay protected, in the event you have to emergency evacuate during the worst of the storm, including socks and running shoes. No sandals.

Write your resort and room number, name, blood type and allergy info on your arm in permanent marker.

Take refuge in the bathroom or a closet floor, bringing blankets for protection from falling debris.

Change your Voicemail Greeting before power and service is lost.

In an effort to keep phone lines open or if unable to re-charge, leave your last location, what you're wearing, who you're with and other general safety status information on your outgoing voicemail message for friends and family.

Give the date and time so people know how recent your status is.

Consult an Immigration/visa specialist and not a Travel Professional, for entry requirements to various countries.

Usually, you would Consult an embassy from the country emitting the original visa.

If you are a permanent resident of Canada, hold a US Visa and a passport from India, there is currently a 2 year wait for an appointment in Toronto for an Indian PR (permanent resident) to get their US travel visas.
