✨ Student Spotlight: Meet Libby Worden 🎒

As we wrap up our student spotlight for the month of May, we are proud to feature Libby, who is heading into her fifth and final year of the Hospitality and Tourism Management co-op program at Toronto Metropolitan University.

Libby has gained a wide range of experience across the industry, from working as a Guest Experience Expert at the Delta Grand Okanagan to contributing to the Canadian University Sales Competition through the Ted Rogers Sales Leadership Program, and completing a Valuation and Consulting internship with HVS Montreal. Through these roles, she has developed a strong understanding of both operations and the business side of hospitality.

Inspired by her passion for helping people and influenced by her mom's career in the industry, Libby chose hospitality as a path that combines business with meaningful human connection. Over time, her interests have evolved toward the hotel real estate sector, where she hopes to use her strengths in analytics and storytelling to support ownership decisions, with the long term goal of owning and managing her own properties.

💬 Advice for students considering hospitality
Don't be discouraged if your first role doesn't feel like the right fit. Libby emphasizes the importance of exploring different paths within the industry to find what truly aligns with your strengths and interests.

One of her most memorable experiences was receiving the Air Canada Future Leaders Award at TIAO's Tourism Summit, where she had the opportunity to speak in front of over 500 industry professionals and advocate for student voices in hospitality.

✨ Student Spotlight: Meet Jawad Rahim 📖

As we continue our student spotlights for the month of May, we are featuring Jawad, who has just completed his second year in the Hospitality and Tourism Management program at Toronto Metropolitan University. He is a proud GTHA scholarship recipient. This summer, he will be completing his first co-op term as a Client Services Assistant at the Ontario Investment and Trade Centre.

With a strong interest in how large hotel operations run and maintain consistency at scale, Jawad was drawn to the industry through both its operational complexity and strategic depth. His studies have expanded that interest into the broader tourism sector, where he continues to explore how demand is generated and how different parts of the industry connect.

Looking ahead, Jawad hopes to work at the intersection of tourism and hotels in a role that blends strategy and operations, contributing to seamless travel experiences and long term industry growth.

💬 Advice for students considering hospitality
Take initiative early and get as much exposure as possible. Jawad highlights the importance of networking, attending industry events, and gaining hands on experience, while staying open to the many different paths within hospitality.

Stay tuned as we continue to highlight inspiring students throughout the month! https://www.gtha.com/faces-of-hospitality-may-student-spotlight/
