Throwing it back to the early 1950s in honour of this weekend's upcoming annual Tamakwa T-Shirt Day! If you look closely, you'll see the Pioneers in this photo have Tamakwa Lodge written on their shirts. In the early days, Tamakwa had two distinct sides: Camp Tamakwa for Boys, run by Unca Lou Handler, and The Tamakwa Lodge for Girls, run by Lou's sister Esta Handler Kraft.

So, if you've ever wondered why the Tamakwa song lyrics are "What a Lodge! What a Camp! What a place!"... that's why!

THIS SUNDAY, MAY 31 grab your favourite vintage shirt and show your Tamakwa spirit!

We welcome, we welcome you… Please join us in welcoming Tamakwa Program Directors Jake Godfrey and David Casely!

Jake is stepping into the role of Program Director after previously serving as an awesome Assistant Program Director. Jake grew up at camp, became a great counsellor, CIT director, and has even worked year-round in the camp office. A skilled canoeist and former Canoe Activity Leader, Jake is celebrating his 18th summer on the shores of South Tea this year — a special milestone for someone who has brought so much energy and heart to camp over the years.

David first joined the Tamakwa family three summers ago as a Tripper, but he’s always been a camper. Growing up on a farm in the southwest of England, David developed a love for the outdoors early on. His first outdoor education job was as a canoe and kayak specialist, and since then he’s worked as a counsellor, activity leader, section head, and Program Director. Around camp, David is happiest with a fishing rod in hand, leading a team-building game, or out in a canoe exploring the park.

Together, this duo brings an incredible mix of experience, enthusiasm, and camp spirit to the program team. We can’t wait to see them bring the magic of Tamakwa to life this summer!

We welcome, we welcome you… Please join us in welcoming Avi Teich as our Camp Coordinator for Tamakwa 2026!

Returning for his 18th summer at Tamakwa and his 3rd as Camp Coordinator, Avi is an integral part of camp life and the program team. Avi previously ran the windsurf docks, and windsurfing remains one of his favourite things to do at camp.

As Camp Coordinator, you’ll often spot Avi running around camp with a clipboard in one hand and a coffee mug in the other. His role involves a little bit of everything — a true camp Swiss Army knife — from duty grids and day-off schedules to ER runs and staff special goodness. Working closely with Jake and David as part of the program team, Avi plays an important role behind the scenes in evening programs, all-day programming and Colour Wars, helping make some of the most memorable moments of the summer feel magical for campers.

18 summers at Tamakwa: Chai! A fitting milestone for someone who helps bring camp to life.
