This fall, one of our guests found himself waking up early each morning and watching the sky again each evening, camera in hand. He told us that the skies over Goose Cove were among the most beautiful he'd ever seen.

Looking at these photographs, and we understand why. From soft golden mornings to fiery red sunsets reflecting across the still waters of Trinity, no two skies were ever quite the same.

One electrical apprenticeship. That is the whole hinge of it.

Frank Mitchell became a father young and was given a start in the electrical trade in Western Australia. He was 43 when the awards were announced, and he co-directs Wilco Electrical, one of several construction companies he has set up in about a decade. They employ more than 200 people full time.

He has created more than 70 upskilling positions for First Nations people and 30 electrical apprenticeships, and awarded $11 million of his companies' work to Aboriginal-owned subcontractors.

He describes it as what an apprenticeship did to him.

"The electrical apprenticeship gave me so much, I started to think things and achieve things that I never thought [possible]," he said.

He was one of eight national finalists for Australia's Local Hero in January.

The positions are the point, not the award.
