Rushing down harbour this evening to the grocery store, Christine and I had to do a quick U turn to admire and capture the beauty of the setting sun on this placid pond. Every time I see such a calm scene, I never fail to think of the late Doyle Mitchell's beautifully written poem, " The Stillness of a Lake!" As usual click on photo for best view.

We were discussing how the face of so many communities have changed in a few generations and I post those two photos of Clothier's Island, Tizzard's hr. First from today October 4th, 2024 and the second from sometime in the 18 hundreds, I imagine. It's amazing to me that people lived on this small island at the mouth of Tizzard's Hr, with no obvious source of water and many times in the early winter and spring , between open and fast, when it was impossible to get off the island.

Sharing a couple photos from our repair work on the dock at our old homestead of Tizzard's hr. Firstly, to say thank you to Brian Small for a great job and was wondering when the time came to get back up the hill, would he make it. I need not have worried! LOL. Secondly, in doing repairs to the existing structure we unearthed a few old wharf sticks that were put there, in my view, by stronger hands. Father was born in 1910 and certainly it was long before Father's time that those wharf sticks were fastened together with wooden dowels, and buried under the silt , as sound as the day they were put there. We have to stand in awe of the manual labour and the sweat of the brow of our fisher forefathers as they toiled to feed their families on rocky shores.

Making memories with Capt. Dave's fishing tours, Twillingate, NL. This little boy will be able to share this experience with his many friends as he speaks French, English and German fluently and will not soon forget his first cod fish. He was delighted to release his cod, hooked just by the lip. Happy little boy!

Sharing just a couple photos of many different scenes and experiences for those tourists all the way from Germany, on our morning tour Canada Day, 2024. No tour is complete without a stop at the old homestead at Tizzard's Hr. and a discussion about the fishing industry and the changes seen in a lifetime. This is my lobster traps on the dock where father's fishing stage stood, and his fish store and netloft which was at one time the harbour school.
