There is a giant pacific octopus at the Ukee Aquarium. She was sleeping in her den the day we went but you can see some of her suckers here. This is our favourite rainy day activity in the area. Always a treat and the staff are very engaged and willing to share their knowledge of the sea creatures.

The good folks at the Ucluelet Aquarium are probably out today catching specimens for its catch and release program. Each spring they catch plants and animals recording the location they were caught. Throughout the tourist season people come and enjoy the creatures. Then in the fall staff takes the plants and animals back to the place they were found and releases them back to the wild. It is Canadaā€™s first catch-and-release aquarium and is a real gem.
