This is what some people call Strawberry Island, and we have a cherished group of folks called the “Strawberry Islanders”…
Our hearts break for you. We know you love this place. Decades of memories built on this island, we always admire your group as you make your spot here each year… We’re here for you if you need us.
So many of you have been coming to Lac Des Mille Lacs for generations. We KNOW, WE SEE how much you love and cherish this place…
We will be here at Lac Des Mille Lodge, watching over the land as it heals… We feel the devastation, but we experience the hope as well. We see the eagles, the ducklings, a bear, a wolf sighting… our first group, back catching fish; their first time ever to Lac Des Mille Lacs….
Seeing the Eagle high in Eagle’s Nest…. What an empowering, hopeful site….
But also so sad and lonely… we feel pain for the Lac Des Mille Lacs community… we followed the path of the fire beyond Connection Road, across Blind Bay, across Owl Island, behind and around Honkonen Narrows, and through Thousand Lakes Resort, Cushing Lake Resorts/Thunder Bird and that area…. We haven’t made it by Open Bay Lodge, the Reservation, the homes & Camps etc yet..
We are so sorry for your loss and for all disruption to your lives & livelihood’s… the fire has truly been devastating. We’re sending prayers your way.
Nature is mighty and we’ll never quite feel the same about her… the fire was worse than we expected.
