Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day, a day to honour, celebrate, and reflect.

The Parkside sits on the traditional territories of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples, the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations. Their relationship with this land is ancient, living, and ongoing. Today we celebrate the rich cultures, languages, and histories of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples across the country. We encourage you to take a moment to listen, learn, and honour the communities whose stewardship of this land has been since time immemorial. We honour the past, stand in the present, and commit to a future built on respect.

Our Climate Contribution Program is one of the ways we put our commitment to sustainability into action.

A small fee of $2.00 per night goes directly toward four forward-thinking climate initiatives through our partnership with The Offsetters Community, supporting real, meaningful change for the planet. This past April, we took it one step further, donating $1 from every Climate Contribution fee to Sierra Club BC.

The fee is optional and can be waived at check-in, but we're proud of the difference it makes, and grateful to the guests who choose to be part of it.

Last month, our Marketing and Sustainability Coordinator Savannah attended the annual Cmolik Scholarship Banquet, joining fellow recipients, graduates, mentors, and family for an evening that celebrates the foundation's community and rein-stills its mission.

Savannah is a 2023 recipient of The Cmolik Foundation scholarship, which awards up to 20 scholarships annually, recognizing students who have faced adversity and pursued their goals with positivity and tenacity.

Here is what Savannah shared about the experience: "This annual banquet serves as a reminder to the immense gratitude I have for the generosity of the Cmolik Foundation. Each year I look back on my 17 year old self, the version who, though determined to be the first of my family to go to university, had no idea how I'd do it. This includes my, now second, summer co-op term at The Parkside Hotel and Spa, proudly working alongside an amazing team of passionate professionals."

We are honoured to be part of Savannah's story. Watching her grow and lead with such heart has been truly inspiring. Congratulations, Savannah!
