We're starting to think capitalism has genuinely broken our brains a little.
We've become so accustomed to everything being about profit margins, endless consumption, subscriptions, and maximizing every square inch of a business that the idea of someone opening a store because they genuinely LOVE something seems to make people deeply uncomfortable.
We keep getting asked how we're paying our rent, what our profit margins are, whether we've considered our operating costs, and what our business model is.
And while we find the sudden abundance of volunteer financial advisors absolutely hilarious, we promise we've thought about these things.
We have a business plan. We sell physical media, vintage toys, collectibles, and handmade goods. We rent VHS tapes and VCRs. We're expanding to include more local nostalgia-loving makers, special guests, and ticketed experiences.
But here's the part that seems to confuse people.
We ALSO want to create a space where you don't HAVE to buy something to belong.
Where you can sit on a couch, play an old video game, talk about your favourite childhood movie, or just enjoy being somewhere that makes life feel a little less heavy.
Not every interaction needs to be a transaction.
We're not suggesting businesses don't need to make money. Of course they do. We're simply suggesting that maybe making money doesn't have to be the ONLY reason something exists.
We're 12 days into building something we genuinely believe in. We have plans, we have goals, and we're figuring things out as we grow.
But apparently, until we publish our financial statements for the comment section, our official business model is ✨ABRACADABRA✨
And honestly? We're okay with that. 😂📼
