To the left stands the historic No. 6 mine’s rock pile. The underground mining for iron ore operated from 1905 to 1966. Originally opened as No. 2 Slope by the Nova Scotia Steel and Coal Company, the operations extended far out under the floor of Conception Bay, a striking reminder of Bell Island’s industrial past against the soft, golden glow of the evening sky.

Iceberg season is officially underway for Newfoundland !! 🤗
Earlier today , a small chunk of ice known as a Growler passed along the north side of Bell Island, NL—visible right from my short term vacation rental 😊 My brother snapped this photo. There’s also a larger Chunk of ice know as a Bergie floating nearby along the North Shore. Conception Bay, Newfoundland

While taking a short ferry ride across to Bell Island, your journey begins with the amazing coastal cliffs. Look closely, and you'll spot the 'Rubber Boots'—two remarkable, natural formations that honour the island's resilient, hardworking spirit of the miners, farmers and fishermen. It serves as a monument to its rich history. Come for a night, a weekend, or extend your stay to truly immerse yourself in the beauty of Bell Island. There are lots of wonderful places to visit and check out on Bell Island.
The Gregory Normore Hiking Trail, the lighthouse, Miner's Point, Grebe's Nest, Lance Cove Beach, Seaman's Memorial, Scotia Pier, Dominion Pier, and the WW11 Guns.
