August Feature: Brenda 🐐

Brenda is one of our sweetest goats and currently holds the title of second-in-command. She occasionally challenges Gertruda, but usually only when Gertruda is picking on her daughter, Rosie.

One of Brenda's most recognizable features is her chin wattles - those little fleshy flaps under her chin. They're a normal goat trait with a genetic component, which is why Rosie inherited them too!

Brenda is very food motivated, especially when pears or crab apples are involved, and is always happy to accept a snack, a cuddle, or preferably both!

Bouquets Coming Soon 🌿

Over the past few weeks we've been planting seeds, preparing beds, and dreaming about rows of colourful blooms swaying in the summer breeze.

This summer we'll be offering:
🌸 Fresh farm-grown bouquets�🌸 Seasonal flower subscriptions�🌸 DIY flower buckets for weddings and events�🌸 Roadside flower stand days at the farm

We're still learning what our first flower season here will look like, but that's part of the adventure. 🌱

Bambi is our other 2 year old alpaca, born in August 2023. She had a rough start to life, losing her mother shortly after birth, but she was taken in by our sweetie Nala, who Bambi still very much treats like her mom. The two of them are rarely far apart💛

Because Bambi needed a bit of supplementing early on, she was bottle fed as a a baby, which made her much more comfortable with people and touch than most alpacas tend to be. If you’re lucky (and respectful), she might let you sneak in a little neck rub or a bum pat!

This past weekend we experienced our first shearing day! ✂️🦙🐑

Shearing is an important part of keeping alpacas and sheep healthy and comfortable heading into warmer weather. Their fiber grows continuously, so they need an annual haircut to avoid overheating. While everyone was in we also did hoof trims and trimmed the alpacas’ teeth as part of their regular care.

You’ll notice the alpacas are gently restrained during the process. It might look a little dramatic, but it’s actually the safest way to keep both the animals and the shearers safe and helps everything go quickly and smoothly.

The alpaca fibre will be used in some of the products we sell here in the farm - slippers, socks, and more🧦
As for the sheep wool.. turns out there’s not much of a market for it these days - so if anyone needs an alarming amount of wool, let us know!😅

Also… nobody warned us alpacas turn into tiny naked aliens after shearing👽😂

April Feature: Thumper🦙

Thumper is one of our 2-year-old alpacas, born Sep 2023 right here on the farm, and she has strong opinions about everything, especially food! She’s a bit of a fleece mix, her mom is huacaya, but Thumper clearly picked up some suri, especially those bangs!

She’s greedy, pushy, and very loud about it, and has absolutely no concept of personal space when she thinks snacks might be involved - but we love her anyway!

Thumper was raised alongside her best friend Bambi, and the two have been inseparable since day one. Keep an eye out for Bambi’s feature next 😉

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out to our Easter egg hunt - we truly were not expecting such an amazing turnout, and it meant so much to see so many of you enjoying the day!
