Canyon Creek Recreation Association

Canyon Creek Recreation Association Monthly meetings are on the
3rd tuesday of every month. 7:00 pm A post office was established in March 1928, & was named for the nearby creek.

A little history for those trivia hounds;
In the 1920's, the area was named 'Field Canyon Creek' after a Mr. Field, an employee of a lumber company operating on the steep-banked stream, This was to differenciate it from other Canyon Creeks in the area. The first postmistress was Mary Potter. The name Canyon Creek was officially adopted in 1967. In 1985, for economic reasons, it joined two other nearby hamlets, Widewater & Wagner. More history will be posted as it is gathered.

The Canyon Creek Recreation Association has always believed in community pride, and this project is one of our favourites.

A few years back, a handful of residents wanted to brighten up Canyon Creek for summer. We purchased flags, partnered with ATCO, and soon the community had a beautiful patriotic display that became a seasonal tradition — minus the year when wildfire season kept everyone busy and cautious.

This year, it was time for new flags, and some of our Widewater members wanted to bring that same spirit to their area. We ordered fresh flags, poles, and hardware, and ATCO generously donated their time and expertise to install the new poles throughout Widewater.
Enjoy the patriotic spirit while it’s up for the season. Community pride looks good on all of us.

🌸 Southshore Shines on Mother’s Day! 🌸
What a beautiful morning of family, food, and community. Our volunteers showed up with open hearts — some spent yesterday blistering their hands during the community cleanup, while others helped set up the event, served breakfast to moms and families, and stayed to tidy up afterward. Together they turned a simple breakfast into a warm celebration that made every mom feel seen and appreciated.
The kindness we witnessed today didn’t happen by accident. These volunteers are living examples of the values their mothers taught them — generosity, responsibility, and a deep care for neighbors. Their mothers raised them to be pillars of our community, and today they led by example, showing our children what service and compassion look like in action.
Heartfelt Thanks to our volunteers: Aaron Walters, Tommy & Karla Snowden, Thomas Pearson, Brent Courtorielle, Dale Giroux, Brady Courtorielle, Noah Courtorielle, Colin Mackie, Chantal Brisebois, Glen & Chris Monaghan, Fay & Larry Cardinal and Garth Giroux.
Time, sweat, and smiles made this Mother’s Day unforgettable.
To our sponsors: MD124 Lesser Slave River F.C.S.S and the Canyon Creek Recreation Association — your support made this event possible.
This truly was a Mother’s Day for the books — full of laughter, teamwork, and the kind of role models every community hopes for. Thank you to everyone who gave their time and energy; Southshore is stronger because of you.

Canyon Creek Recreation Association showed up BIG today! Our volunteers rolled in with rakes, gloves, enthusiasm, and at least one baby who contributed mostly moral support. Together, 17 volunteers worked together to accumulate 73 hours of clean up volunteering at the Canyon Creek Marina & Campground — and the place is now so tidy even the geese are impressed.
Massive shout out to the dream team: Tanya, Dale, Pam, Marlee, Brady, Aaron, Harlo, Tommy, Karla, Savannah, Brent, Noah, Jake, Eliza, Garth, Colin, and Flint. If community spirit was a sport, you’d all be gold medal athletes.
Thanks to our partnership with MD 124 Lesser Slave River, every penny goes right back into the Southshore — events, workshops, improvements, and all the little touches that make this place home.
Watch for the new Canadian flags going up soon. And yes… more events are coming.
