A little piece of Martock history 💙

While going through Martock’s history, we came across this photo of Chuck & Joey O’Brien at Martock ⛷️

This photo was shared with us during the season by the O’Brien family while reconnecting with their roots in the area.

Chuck O’Brien played an important role in helping rebuild and reopen Martock in the 1970s during a pivotal moment for the hill. Joey O’Brien also played a major role in shaping much of the Martock many people remember today - from the growth of the race club and snowmaking expansion to lodge improvements, terrain park development, the introduction and support of snowboard culture, and the continued evolution of the hill over the years.

Joey also helped expand activities beyond skiing and snowboarding, including hosting the Canadian Mountain Biking Championships at Martock in 1995.

Preserving snow with a speciality tarp is not a new concept, but it is new to Canada. Ski Martock is now the first alpine skill hill to use the technology east of B.C.
